The hatchbck worked fine ,then one day,it no longer lifted with assist. The unlocking mechanism works when I push the actuating button, but I have to go back and manually lift the hatch to open it.
How can I test the cylinders to iliminate them as the problem?
John

if one failed the other ones near failing and since they are fairly cheap just swap out both, I think I paid $23 each for new ones last time that happened on my vette, its fast, cheap and you won,t have problems for years that way

mine lifts 90% of the way up however, it is seldom opened. i have noticed that the weatherstripping "sticks" to the glass sometimes and i have to give it a nudge.

The cylinders are really the only thing that can go bad. That glass is heavy! I seem to replace mine every 5 years or so.

You can also oil them up a bit to see if that helps. Use automatic tranny oil and lightly coat the rod.
