I have been looking, unsuccessfully, for several years for a magazine containing the following ad:

vettead.jpg

Yes, that's my car back in the day. The ad would probably have run in the 1971-1975 timeframe, if ever.

Have you seen this ad? I really, really want to get a magazine with it in there.

I figure someone here may remember it or may have an idea where to look. I've already checked out numerous car mags from the day as well as a variety of general mags with no luck.

TYIA!

I don't think it was in a car magazine. It was in a magazine for electronic testing equipment.

I like searching for this stuff. I emailed Sony Precision at marketing@spt.sony.com and sent a copy of the above picture. Will let you know what they say.

If you haven't tried it yet, I've found lots of old ads and articles on my car by setting up a few ebay searches. You can set up the searches to email you daily with any new items they find. Sometimes it takes a few tries to come up with the right combination of words to search on, but it's worth the effort.

Yeah, I should have mentioned that I've also looked in a variety of old tech mags as well, from ham radio stuff to old computer magazines to Scientific American, etc.

Either I've had very bad luck or the ad didn't run that broadly. . . or both! :)

Thanks for contacting Sony! I didn't think of that.

Still haven't found hide nor hair of this old ad.

Bumping for new sets of eyeballs. ;)

Did you try to contact the company listed at the bottom of the page under the vette? good luck. Who was the actor, I am having a brain thing and can't remember his name? Was it Winters?

Yep. I think that is Jonathon Winters.

Yup, that sure is Jonathan Winters. What a funny b@$tard he was too!
You might want to do a search on commercials or ads - stuff promoted by him.

According to everything I could find he's still alive and kicking, and living in CA. There was also this "contact" pointer on his website:

joe@jonathanwinters.com

He must have someone screen through his email. Hopefully this might lead you in the right direction.

Good luck - oh yeah, his website it located at:

http://www.jonathanwinters.com/

You could possible start here, as this is one reference to the company listed under the car
Sony Magnescale America, Inc.
137 West Bristol Lane
Orange, CA 92665 USA
Phone: 714-921-0630
Fax: 714-921-1162

Or, try this website for Sony Mangescale

I also tried searching the address listed in the magazine, but it's too blurry for me to make out the actual address, such zip code or city name.

I make it out to be
National Machine Systems Inc.
2872 Walnut Ave.
Tustin, CA 92680
714-832-5520 (or maybe 5620)
Hope this helps

Very old post answer to advertising question from Erik Klein

Maybe years too late, but the ad was run around 1979-80 time frame in industrial tools magazines for Sony. May have been earlier, but think it was after I joined an Encino, CA. ad agency as creative director. Jonathan Winters was a Riot to work with in the photo studio. Kept everyone in hysterical laughter with his improvised comedy. James L. Perry James L. Perry - IMDb

Thanks Jim and welcome to the CAC. It doesn't look like Eric has checked in for some time. I hope he sees this. If he doesn't respond to this post I'll try to contact him.
