When you put headers on a stock 90 ZR1 do you get a feeling of torque loss driving normally (not kicking in secondary's) from off idle thru mid-range? Do I need to change rear end gears to 3:91 to more than make up for torque loss? (4:10 is more gear than I want). Stainless Works headers and Flowmaster cat-back, does x pipe instead of resonator make exhaust a lot louder or just a little? Thanks for opinions

It depends on what calibration the ECM has in it and if the engine still has cats or not.

Anytime you alter the air intake or exhaust to a large degree, you will notice some changes in the way the engine responses at various rpms. All the same rules that apply to a carburated engine apply to fuel injection. To take full advantage of the extra flow, recalibration of timing/fuel is required.

Going from a resonator to an X pipe will be a bit louder, but an X pipes in the proper location will make more torque.

" but an X pipes in the proper location will make more torque."

What is the "proper location" for an X pipe? I'm thinking about a cat-back upgrade. exhaust is currently stock.

The proper location, is as close to the hottest section of the exhaust as possible, past the cats. I've used a bit of spray paint to help me find that spot.
