Greetings! My name is Steven and I'll be 25 on the 25th of this month(July). I just recently purchased a 89' Corvette. After years of saving, and trading in an almost mint 43 year old Ford.... My only dream has come true,I am now the proud owner of an excellent condition '89 Chevy Corvette. Loaded with (from what my research has told me) every option I could get (except for the 6-speed).

I'll try to get some pic's up on my day off,but I just wanted to say hi and introduce myself. I notice so many nice cars on this site, and I plan on keeping mine on the up and up! This site has sooooooo much info,I have gobs of reading to get back to but I do have a few questions...

As an '89 auto with 94k that runs and works great... What am I looking at for durability? Can I modify this car without breaking it? (I found the limit of my '89 Firebird quick but is still a good ride). Everyone tells me (even the extremely rude employee's at my local Cascade Chevy dealer),basically the Corvette was made for two purposes and that was durability and speed. I've only pushed it maybe two or three times and it accelerated unlike anything I've ever had! But I would like a little more pep(I'll hit that search button for good first timer mods).... Another Q is,how hard are these cars to work on honestly? Cause my 77' F150 is cake,my '88TC almost,'89 Firebird is pretty simple but this thing looks pretty cramped!

Also,it's a real pain in the.... To start cold but once started,it's easy to fire up again and again even after hours of stop and go traffic.... Just not when cold....?????? (search didn't tell me much on that). I'm sure I'll have more questions later but I have more reading to do for now...

Take care :) .

If your fuel injectors are the original Multec injectors, (Gray body colored) with close to 100k miles on your car, they will most likely will need replacing soon.

They had a design flaw. The injector coils are exposed to the fuel and the insulation wares off causing the coil windings to short out. 89-91's have this problem. If you were to ohm out the injector coils when hot and cold they should measure around 16 ohms.

Ford replacement injectors are available from around $200 and up.

Also on a side note, on the 89 Vette the engine must make 2 revolutions before the injectors are pulsed. Not sure why GM did that. 89 was also the first year they got rid of the 9th injector which was used for cold starting.

Congratulations on your new Vette! Sounds like an awesome ride! :upthumbs

Welcome to CAC! You will have a great time here! :beer

You found the right place....

Steven......

Congrats and welcome. For a guy your age, that vette'll be a chick magnent!:thumb

Set aside some time to assemble the right pieces to jack your car up for oil changes and other work. It won't be like your F150, the C4 front crossmember which is the center jacking point for the front is 4.25" off the floor. Few floor jacks are this low profile so you've got to roll up onto 2x12 ramps (which I use....two 1.5" boards = a 3.0" boost, plus 4.25" = 7.25" when on the ramps and this allows my Sears 3-Ton floor jack to lift the entire front end). The rear end is tricky too. There's a special adapter available which allows you to jack between the exhaust pipes directly on the differential. I highly recommend it.

Can't help you with the cold starts but guys like C4-5Specialist, GMJunk and others will be along shortly and can help you sort this out with their eyes closed.

Welcome!:upthumbs

Welcome!

Since you are a new Vette owner, you should know that you are required to wave at other Vette owners, and if you get waved at, you are are also required to wave!:L

The C4 is like no other car I have ever driven! You made a good choice!
