I've changed the coil, cap & rotor, fuel filter, IAC, throttle position sensor, plugs, wires, ignition module, I've even checked the timing several times, still haveing the problem! can some one help? our who wants to buy the car for $1.75 (Plus tax)

Howzit! When & where in the islands you came from?

HI there,
Is your security light on when it stalls?????
I would suggest that you may have a problem with the security system.
The intermittant start and stall, is a very common occurance with a car that has either a bad ignition switch, or worn contact on the keys.
When this happens, I would scan the PCM, and see what codes you have, if you have a scanner.
Also, your central control module would also have a code, for a failed password.
Please keep us posted, c4c5

spent two wonderful years at Kaneohe M.C.A.S....used to run with Ernie Frietas of Windward Racing and Tom DeCoite who had a tranny shop in Kailua. Got a couple of trophy's at the strip in class for my 58 chevy with a 409 with 3 deuces. Learned to scuba dive at Hanama Bay, in and out of the water at toilet bowl.
Will let you know when I am coming for a visit Bra....Aloha

I dont know if this is related, but I found charcoal pices, or what looked like charcoal pieices in my purge silinoid, does this mean something? Also what was wierd, was that today when I was leaving the store, the car ran really bad and also the peedo gages were on, but was not reading the speed that I was going, it kept reading 0 mph, and the mp gallon reader was flicking on and off, then finnally went off, the engine light also came on, so I went to my dads place down the street, turned the car off, put the wire in to read the codes, no codes!? none!? investegated around the engine compartment for a few minutes, started the car up and it was fine! I Dont get it!?

O.K! Here we go.....I have more gremlins attacking my car, Today when I was on my way to my dads place, after starting the car, the engine service light came on! the car was running hideuos! the speed ometer was reading 0 mph, even though I was moving, the mpgallon indicater went out completely! Iarrived at my dads, turned the car off, placed the wires in the thingy to pull the codes! No codes to be pulled?! a probebly none related thing, my vacuum purge celinoid, was full of charcoal pices, the size of sand grains! after investagating around, I started the car, and it seemed fine! Now in past few weeks if been haveing a bad time trying to figure what the hecks up with this car! some times when I start it up, it starts and dies right away, this happens a few times in a row, then it'll be fine, some times when I start it, it wont have a problem at all!, at others I'll start it up, and it seems to stuggle a little to keep idleing, just few a second, then it'll pick up and be fine! some times when it does that strugle to idle thing, when the fans come on, the idle will suddenly raise to normal! I've changed every thing about, the tps, IAC, fuel filter, plugs, wires, rotor, ignition module, and this thing I cant think of the name which sets beside the plenum, and has 1 hose running from it, and a small eletrical harness that goes to it? this is on the passenger side. I have a fuel pump ready to go in, but some how I have a funny feeling that its electrical, not fuel. Help some one please, I cant take to much more of these fustrations!!!

Hey Bra...Howzit.....when you last make sacrifice to da Island Gods?

You know what happens when Pele gets mad....

first things first...
Have you checked and cleaned all grounds, especially the one between the frame, and engine?
second, has the car been sitting for a length of time before this started?

things i would do initially

1. Remove and clean all grounds ( even the neg term on the batt.)
2. 1 can of seafoam in the fuel Tank ( avail at NAPA)
3. cap the Vacuum lines to and from the purge canister
4. unplug the Ign. switch connecter and clean all contacts, then reconnect.
5. Cap off ( temprarily) all vacuum line ( test of Vacuum leaks)

I've done that sea foam thing a little bit ago, but I'll do it again, I'll go ahead and cap the purge off, the ign switch, I'm not familier with, wheres that located at? and I''l do the vacume leak check also. Mahalo nui loa (thank you very much) for your help, I'll let all of you whos been following this saga the results.

Hi there,
The charcoal pieces shows you that the canister for the evaporative emissions, at the lower front wheel house, next to the radiator, has failed. You will need to replace this canister for starters, and blow out the lines with compressed air, to get all that charcoal out of the lines.
As far as the rest, it seems to me, that there is a computer communications failure, which stops the data from the PCM to the speedo center. When this happens, all data is corrupted, and does NOT display data.
First, you cannot retreive codes from the central control module, with the jumper on the DLC.
So I would have this scanned for codes please.

When you say to get it scanned, will my friends lap top do the job? He has the program to moniter the engine when he plugs it in to that inlet under the dash. Also, I found a problem with the connection to the IAC sensor, the wires I guess, were all messed up, the engine started sureing again when I started it up this morning, so I unpluged the IAC to see if anything changed, nothing did, it continued to do the samething, so I pluged it back in and played with it and the idle straightened out just like that! So I cut a section of wire from the IAC sensor harness, and recrimped them back together, now the car idles and runs nice, no hicups or anything! I do have another question for you though, the evaporative emissions canister is not the one in the back right? Thats the charcoal canister, correct? it's the round sphere thats in the front next to the radiator like you said right? just asking to confurm! can I use one out of the camaro also?, or even better way of asking, what other cars can I use this evaporative canister out of?

Hi there,
No, you cannot use one out of a different vehicle.
Simply purchase one from your local autoparts store, or the local Chevy dealership.
They are not that expensive.
As far as the rest, yes, get some data on the PCM, and the CCM, if you can please, and post the info here.

O.K I think that I've just confused the dealer about this part! Now just to confirm what this part is, and what it looks like......What would the dealer call this part?, are there different names for the same part?, your talking about the round, like a small ball, plastic thing that a small vacum hose goes to which has the cruise control connected to it, that sets in the compartment on the drivers side next to the radiator, right? Sorry for what seems to be a repeated question from me.
