Help Needed - Engine Miss Is Gradually Getting Worse!

That's good to hear. I think I may be working my way down to solving my problem too. You are right, just because you checked it once doesn't mean it doesn't have an issue. You just have to keep going over the same things.

Even if your scan tool was dead - did you try to check for codes using the paper clip aldl method. I've got a similar problem with my 89 (60,000 miles) and I'm getting ready to check codes via the aldl/paper clip method tomorrow am. The problem just started suddenly and I haven't had a chance to see under what conditions it gets better or worse. The only thing that I can think of os I just filled it with Hess premium and I've had stumbling problems with Hess before.

I had the SES light on a couple weeks back and found the burnoff relay was bad. I replaced MAF both relays and the engine is running much better.

I got a chance to take the car out on Friday. I drove about 50 miles in different highway settings. I was able to get 27 mpg driving about 55 mph, 24.5 to 25 mpg driving 65 mph. The distances were 10 to 15 mile distances. Over all I think this is about where the car used to be. It still was not the mileage I was getting before. I am thinking that the condition of the old injectors was the reason.

I can't wait till I can fill up with some 94 octane and have some fun!

I finally got a chance to look at the car.

Fuel pressure is ok. The pressure was at 43 PSI when the key is in run. With the engine running it was steady at 39 PSI. I put 10" vaccum on the pressure regulator and it dropped to 40.5 PSI (engine running, vacuum port plugged an vaccum pump on regulator).

The engine was surging at idle.

Pulled all but plug wires # 1 and 3 individually while running. Wires are ok with what I could check (things were getting hot).

Here's something interesting. I checked the resistance of the injectors. Cylinder 3 was 5.7 ohms and 5 was 9.1 ohms! Cylinder 4 was 7.1 ohms. Looks like I need to replace them.

Does anyone know how may lbs per hour the stock injectors flow? Any recomendations on what I should use?

I've been having similar problems withb my 89 - 60,000 miles,. I want to check he injectore too - how do I remove the connectors/caps? I don't want to break anything. It looks like a tricky kinda connector.
thanks

It may look trick but after you get the hang of it you can easily pop them on and off. There is a metal wire clip that you need to push in and once it is in all the way the connector will slide off the injector. The metal clip sits in a recess and when you press on it (against the injector) it will allow the clip to clear the recess.
