I know that Eckler's has a direct replacement, but do you really think that my horn is dead or that maybe a wire became loose?

Keep in mind that it's a 96.

Is this an easy job or should l let my dealer handle it?

Thanks

Alan

I noticed my horns did not work when I bought my vette. I traced the problem to a fuse behind my driver info center. I am not sure if you have this added fuse as it is separate from the one located in the fuse panel. Alldata wiring diagram showed this fuse- I replaced it and my horns worked. Hope this helps. Bob.

I am not sure if it is like my 86, but i would make sure the horns are plugged in. You should be able to find them under the hood. Mine are located in front of each wheel, toward the nose of the car.

Lift the hood.
Horns are black and located between the wheel and the headlight on each side.
Cant miss em. Bracketed up in the nose.

The reason the diaphrams go bad in these is due to rainwater splashing up in there.
I replaced mine with a set from Harbor Freight. I needed something LOUD since folks on the interstate always wanted to pull over on my nose like they never saw me.

Horns sounded like a dying cow. Thats how I knew it was time to replace.

On yours, it might be a connector. Its a typical shovel head / spade connector. See if its come loose at the horn.

Make sure it's the horns and not the buttons on the steering wheel. Mine went bad on a 93 in less then 6 months. Warranty said they had to replace the steering wheel.....it was the only way they could be replaced. At least this is what the dealer said at te time. I don't believe anything they say....any one else have experience with this?

The horns on my 96 intermittently work or don't work. They work most of the time... and then they'll go for many days where they don't... and then they're working again. When they're in a not working state, the alarm system doesn't honk them when it arms either.

Any ideas on what would cause this effect?

To think of it, I don't actually know if both horns work when it does work or not. Maybe I've got one dead horn and one intermittent horn.

I can tell you this. Every so often on my 93 when the car arms (the doors lock) the horn does not sound. This happens maybe once in a dozen times or longer. Not sure what thats all about. Even though I had the steering wheel replaced with shinny new horn buttons.....they still suck. If they are not pushed the right way they don't work. This is both sides, not just one side. I don't know if they improved on the 96 or not.

Robertwav1: The next time the horn doesn't sound when it arms, try pushing your horn immediately. If it's like mine, that won't sound either.
