hi there all guys,
hope all is well with you all!

i was thinking of installing a ignition kill switch inside under dash but need to know where and how to fit the positive and negative wires too?

i have a switch inside the cabin under the dash kick panel on drivers side and then i threaded the wires thru to engine comparment along wire Wall and concealed it and took it all the way to the L98 distributor area!

what wires can i hook it up to stop the car starting?

hope so one out there can help me out on where to connnect the wires up so it will work!
thanks for your time guys!
cheers

The cleanest, simplest & least visible way would be to wire the kill switch in series in the pink wire coming off of the ignition switch. If you pull the hush panel from the driver’s side you will find the bundle running out of the steering column or since you already have the wires under the hood you could connect the kill switch in series with the pink wire on the distributor.

I am guessing that you want this as some sort of anti-theft device. If it were me I would do something more sinister like shutting off the fuel pump or cutting the VATS circuit. Have a look at the L-98 start sequence and you will find lots of fun ways to kill it.

hi spanish vettes,
thanks for the info and reply!
yep i am using it as a anti theft device!
so would the positive side/red wire on my kill switch wire would connect up to the pink wire?
and where or what will i do with the negative/black wire, where will that go too?
may be i can run the black just to an earth some where on the distributor some where?

thanks for your help, time and advice mate!
cheers

I believe he means you just need to cut the pink wire (you now have 2 ends)and then attach one end of the pink wire to one side of the switch and then the other end of the pink wire to the other side of the switch(it doesn't matter which side you use). When you hit the switch it either opens or closes the circuit.

good luck, Mark

I would go with killing the fuel pump. Don't the L98s have the feul pump controled by an oil pressure switch? That would be near the oil filter or the dist. just splice into that.

Why? You already have the chip in the key and if someone pulls the cylinder its not going to start.

protection from family or friends that might have access to the keys ?

Thanks Mark. That is exactly what I wanted him to do.

The secondary fuse block is under the right side hush panel. I would interrupt the circuit to the fuel pump at this point.

hi spanish vettes,
just wandering, i was looking on distributor just now and saw a thick pink wire which clips on to distributor marked as battery!
which is also next to marked tacho!

then there is a thin pink wire under neath the same plug which goes on to the distributor, which wire can i connect up to my kill switch wire please?

thanks

If you must you can cut the pink wire marked +Battery and connect your switch in series so that it either closes or opens the circuit.
DO NOT connect you switch to Ground or you will at best blow some fusses or at worst ignite the car.:(
I would think twice about cutting wires under the hood. There are plenty of places to interrupt one of the circuits required for the L-98 to run under the dash where it is dry and protected from the rather hostel environment of the engine compartment.:nono

thanks spanishvette for your help and info!
i will do what you say and cut the pink wire under neath the kick pad like you said!
thanks very much mate

Beware of starter interrupts!

Your best bet is to interrupt the fuel pump activation circuit (the low current side of the relay). The car will crank and crank but not start that way.

Placing a switch inline on the starter circuit can give you problems. For example: the current draw through the starter circuit will melt a typical toggle switch as they're only rated for about 10 - 15 amps, and the starter (especially after hotsoak) can draw upwards of 100- 150 amps! Granted this is momentary, but it's enough to melt the switch contacts, even on a "heavy duty" rated switch (typically only rated for 50 amps), that you'll find at the parts store. The ignition circuit is another I would avoid. You can suddenly be stranded on the side of the road with a melted switch. If you're hellbent on using either of these circuits, you're best served using a relay to avoid problems, but that opens up another can of worms (current draw with the switch active can run down the battery over time). Better to as I indicated above, cut into the fuel pump low-current circuit.

Get a diagram before attempting this, as you can cause real damage if you don't know what wires you're working with.

hi there advanced autocc,
thanks for your valuable info and help also!
i have not yet attempted to install any switch as of yet!
i will attempt to cut into the fuel pump relay system!

what color is the fuel pump wire?

what do you mean bye the low current side of the relay?

can i find this under the kick dash lower pad under steering column?

do you have a L98 start sequence at all to help me out please?

also i have a key switch that you turn to either side for on and off, will this work at all?

thanks

can any one please answer the questions above please?

Get a factory service manual and use the wiring diagram.
