Hi: I just changed my oil in my C5 for the first time. I put the front end on ramps and raised the rear. It sat overnight and drained all the oil. Problem is, the engine sees to be very thirsty. 6.5 quarts barely got it to the cross-hatched part of the dip stick. Took about 7 quarts 4 oz to top it off, waiting overnight to check the oil. How does this compare to others experience? Have I overfilled?

Let it sit for 10 minutes after adding oil, then read the dipstick. I think you have about 1 Qt. too much in there.

Does the oil go to the proper level on the dipstick with 6.5 quarts? Mine did not.

6.5 is the spec., unless you have a long oil filter.

Make sure your car is off the jack stands and on perfectly level ground.

Ever consider filling it to the top of the cross hatch? That's pretty much how I got to 7 quarts 4 oz. 6.5 quarts got me to the bottom of the hatch marks, then another half quart plus 4 oz to the top of the marks. Think I should remove some? It would seem that the spec should bring the level to the top of the marks, no?

The oil will expand in volume at operating temperatures, and it will show to the top of the dipstick when full.:) Really!

OK, that explains a lot. I've got about half a quart too much in there and I'm going to remove it tomorrow. Thanks for the help.
