46 here. First Corvette. Never even sat in one until Jan. 2006. A month later there was a C6Z sitting in my garage. Lots of fun with good people. I had no idea that Corvette had such a social stigma. Sure makes it fun. Save the wave.

I'm 62 years young, after retiring from the fire department with over forty years of service I've gone out and purchased my first vette, a new metallic red C6 coupe, from Kerbeck in Atlantic City NJ....What a car...my wife & I love it...see ya in the fast lane.....JB

PS If I could only figure how to hook up a set of Grover stutter tone air horns and a federal Q siren I'd be back at work!!

Great post and exactly what I was looking for to rationalize my point about the need for a V6 "Corvette". The demographics are wrong for the current Corvette to grow as a brand. Same problem that Toyota has...so they come out with the Scion.

The demos that really work for the long term (20's and 30's) are first going into foreign performance vehicles. An M3 will cost as much as a Vette but its an entirely different image.

So, if I were the Chevy GM, I'd be fighting for another performance vehicle that distinguishes itself from the Vette. Forget the V8, gimme a turbo V6 sewing machine in a much more compact body and call it whatever the hell you want, Sting Ray Cheetah, whatever. Either that or drop the new powertrain into the Sky and rebadge it. But then, the Saturn GM would not be thrilled with that either.

Just got my new, Red '06 coupe that I've been waiting for since 1963!! 1500 miles as of today. First ride in a C1 in about 1959 got my attention as a kid; then the '63's came out when I was 12, WOW! Been in love ever since I used to watch that old ad for My Three Sons on TV with the split window '63 going across the screen. I knew I needed to have my own new one someday. Had a used '72 LT1 for a year as a 25 year old when I could afford the insurance, but had to wait on the kids to grow and some leave home to finally realize the dream. Kind of an early retirement present for myself to get thru this last year on the career job before finding something new to do. Yup, I'm a '51 model myself, now 55 years old and driving better than ever! I love it.

Congrats on your new C6 Gary. I have always thought I would someday have a new Corvette. There is a red 6 speed convertible in the local dealers showroom that has my attention but it won't happen. From the survey it looks like I have one more year to get this done or my probabilities will decrease drastically.:L

I guess I'll just have to get the '59 finished. It's been so many years since I drove it that it will seem new again.

Corvette number 5

Bought the first one new in 1981 at age 29, and have also owned a C4, and two C5's (Coupe and Vert), prior to buying my current Black C6 Coupe in June 2006 (now at age 54).

I think the billboard advertisement I saw on Woodward Avenue in Detroit during the "Dream Cruise" there a few years ago sums up my passion for Corvettes.

It showed a '63 Split-Window Coupe at rear three-quarter view driving away with the simple caption "They don't write songs about Volvos" .

Nuff said for me!

My wife bought her '81 new also. We didn't know each other then so it doesn't count as a new Corvette purchase for me. I'm working on her though.

I liked that billboard, too! I quote it regularly when my wife tries to brag about her new Volvo!

I'm 46, and although I don't own a C6, I DID buy 2 C5s within a month of each other. I paid cash for both. The collective price for both was far more than the price of one C6. Is there a statistic for that???

Over 60 but working to stay young. After Porsches, BMW's, Mustangs and currently a Honda S2000 I'm about to order my first "vette" I feel like a kid and can't justify it with my back but then you never know how long you have. with my lifestyle and career, retired Air Force fighter pilot I really never thought I would last this long. Wish Chevy had a light blue to match my little cloth covered Citabria acrobatic airplane...... did I mention that I don't want to grow up or old. Take care all and my biggest decision is Victory red or Machine silver, of course that is after I convince my lovely bride of 37 years that we really need this for our sanity. Jack

check6, my wife has a bad back and she has no problems when we're in my C5. She says that the ride is the most comfortable of any car she's been in. If the C6 seats are anywhere near the C5 (and I would expect them to be AS good if not better) then you should have no problem with your back either. Unless, of course, you've departed controlled flight too often and have had to ride other means of "transportation" back down, in which "all bets are off. Spend any time in SEA? I was there from April 68 thru November 69. Enlisted....fixed radios...got out after 4 years. Hope you enjoy the C6 if you decide to buy it.

I'm 46 and after driving a C6 I got rid of my Mustang Cobra and bought one. I never looked back. What a car!

I'm 70 and I bought my yellow 2007 ZO6 in July from Mike Carr in Columbus, Ohio. Until then, I had a 2002 ZO6, also yellow, which I bought new on New Year's eve 2001. I also had a black '85 for a while and in the way distant past I had a new red 1968 427. I had to get rid of the 427 after a couple of years because my son was born and it was our only car.

I can't say enough good things about my present ZO6; it's superb. The others were great fun too; however, I can't help but dream about what it would have been like to have had the 2007 back when I was only about 31 years old.

I'm 35 and bought my first Corvette last month, (2007,1lt,z-51) outright no loan. Still waiting for delivery.

In every Corvette I see some old guy is driving it. Usually bald or with grey hair old enough to be my grandpa.

Your correct,Corvette will soon take the place of Buick as the car of choice for old folks.I'll be 60 when I get my c-6.I'm old i'm bald a little plump(not bad)can't hear well and vision is fadeing. Why then Corvette? I've loved speed ,the first vett I rode in was stolen (1967).The grandchildren think i'm weard and cool at the same time.My wife thinks i'm immature (I am !).I can't afford anything faster.I could go on and on but it's time for a nap.:z Oh and my last one will be a C-7 or C-8 .

Old Grandpas

I'll bet we're more fun to ride with than your grandpa! :beer
