STi-to-Z06

Guest
Going tomm to trade my oil leaking POS 05 Subaru STi on an 01 Z06! I have always wanted a Vette and now, much earlier than I ever anticipated I get to enjoy one!

Please inform me of any tips, maintenance issues etc with this car. I am trolling the tech forums etc and so far nothign major.

Thanks and glad to be here!

Welcome aboard, the membership here is very knowledgeable. If you have specific questions just ask, they will be answered.

Welcome to the CAC.

As far as tips: Keep and eye on the gas gauge an use top tier gas. The cheaper ones tend to cause the infamous gas gauge issue. Thats where you had a half tank just a minute ago and now its on E.
I would also pull the diagnostic trouble codes to see if the car has had any issues in the past or at least clear them so you can track them going forward.

Thanks to all. I only wish I could go today to get her!

Welcome to the CAC. :w Congrats on getting a Z06.

welcome to CAC!!!!:welcome
enjoy!!!!

Well I went today to look at the 2001 Z06. I was disappointed.

The engine had a buzz to it, like a fast paced clicking I could not locate. There was condensation on the inside of the trunk lid.
Tires = bald.
Wetherstripping around the passenger door was weird looking as well.

I offered the dealer 23K for it. He was instantly defensive, I told him all he had to do was haggle with me a bit, but he was stubborn. I explained the issues with the car and he tried to tell me the tires were about $250EA to replace. I hated to do it but I laughed right in his face and explained to him that I was not an idiot, that I had done quite a bit of research and knew that the tires alone cost more than that each.

I sat with him for a moment in the dealer and listened to him and then they tried to sell me a terrible warranty and at that point I told my wife it was time to go.

We left, they did not pursue, I suppose they are not in the actual business of SELLING cars.

BTW, this was at Koon's Honda in Manassas Va.

The search goes on for my new baby!

Sounds like you made the right decision! It's disappointing, but there are many Corvettes out there for sale. Besides, half the fun is in the hunt. ;)

Let me know if I can help.

Lots of great reading here to aid you in your quest for "your" Corvette too.

This is a link to the Corvette Action Center Model Center index page: Model Center From there you can access photos, performance specs, options etc. for each model year.

This link will open the Corvette Action Center Buyer's Form: Click me This form can be printed and carried along when checking out prospects.

Of course, when you locate a good prospect, post about it here and your fellow CAC members will be glad to make suggestions and offer advice.

Happy hunting!

Although it may be more trouble, don't confine your search to only local Corvettes. Somebody somewhere wants to trade what they have for something else. Good luck on your journey. :w

OK. I own a Porsche 944S. Always loved it.

Found a 03 Z06 in black. The perfect car, it hs 39K miles, a GREAT price and is as I want it to be. I drive it tomm.

The last three digits of the price?

944.

I think (call me silly) it is a sign. Carfax comes up perfect with meticulous records.

I'll post tomm, hopefully with pictures of me and my new Z06!

Welcome aboard. Enjoy !!!! :beer

Thanks to all of you!

Looks like I am flying to Louisville KY in the mornign to pick up my 2003 metallic silver Z06. 16,000 miles on her and ONLY 29K for the car. I am purchasing a 5 year 90K mile warranty whcih is comprehensive so no matter what ailment she might develop I am covered.

I will have upwards of 8 hours to get to know her on the drive home to Richmond, through the Blue Ridge mountains and the flats of Va. I am trying not to get excited. It is not working. :D:D

I will post pictures tomm nght if I make it home in time to do so. Gonna be a long rainy drive, as such I may have to stay at a hotel part way thru the trip as I do nto want to try the mtn roads in an unfamiliar SUPERCAR!

Looks like you were busy between last night and this morning! :L

Congratulations...and let us know all about the drive and the new car!

The saga goes on.

I went to Carmax this morning as my wife found yet a BETTER prospect.

2003, 16K miles, Silver and only 29K

We went to the shop, sold my car to Carmax and then in the middle of working out the deal for the Z06 (which is in KY) I am told that there is an "unknown mechanical issue" with the car.

After a few hours of waiting we find out that the car has slight rattle under the shifter. The tech thinks it is the clutch plate. The car was sent to GM and also to a transmission specialist. Both of whom gave it a clean bill of health. Carmax however is holding off on the sael of the car as they are not sure what is wrong, even thought he manufacturer and a specialist tell them the car is fine.

I am ready to spit nails. Don't even need to chew nickles...

I know that the right car is out there for me waiting to be driven. The waiting is the hardest part, especially now that the Subaru is no longer mine.

I have a 1987 944S but it is not in inspection and has a dead battery.

Just talked to the dealer in KY. The car had metal shavings in the transmission fluid. I am assuming that it had the **** beat out of it and thus, sheared gears. Welp, that's out of the running.
