That is SWEET!:D
Here in PA you can be charged with DUI (alcohol or drugs) on private property. (Not me, but I know people who have; in their driveway!)

I don't know, people cool down after a while, but I think I'd push for it. No excuse for that crap. Reading police blotters here teenagers get too many slaps on the wrist for marijuana possesion/use, etc. while driving and usually end up with $50 fines:mad
In NY we were told you can be charged with DUI if you are in sitting inside the car with the keys on your person, intent to drive.

Let me get this straight a in Florida a person can be arrested for drinking a beer while driving a lawnmower.:eyerole Now that's going too far.
On the other hand you guys have the right to concealed carry; and that's truly beautiful. :cool
It's sad but True!! 12 or 15 years ago a dude down by Port St Lucie Drowned while Mowing his Grass Drunk!! Ran off into a canal!!!:W

I have no sympathy for people like this period. Nothing boils my blood more than people trying to get away after they just screwed somebody's property.

I hope she gets the book thrown at her severly !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Looks like you've had it worse than I did. Alot of idiots not taking responsability for their actions. The sad thing is, it was her first offense and she probably will get let off easily!

Your quick actions caught her and kept her from damaging even more property and perhaps killing someone. Good work! Hope the repairs come out perfectly and you're not without your baby for too long. Good luck.

Does she even have insurance? Her police report lists her as "Unemployed".

I had a young girl (18, 19 maybe) total a minivan I was driving. She too was driving under the influence of "trauma", i.e. "a bad day at home with the parents". She must not have seen me coming down the street because she did a very fast California stop at an intersection, and then in typical female fashion, stomped on the gas. T-boned right in to my driver-side door.
I felt bad for her at first, as she was all shaken and what not.
I saw her a couple months later serving at thisi restaurant I was at. I asked her if her parents were hard on her (as they were at the scene). She said, "Yeah, but I was still allowed to go to my friend's concert that night." :eyerole Then I was kinda PO'ed that she didn't get at least grounded or something! :L

Did her parents post the bond? Looks like she spent 24 hours in the slam before being bailed out.

Your insurance will cover the damages but if she doesn't have insurance (or is not on her parent's policy), your company will probably write the expenses off. It would be hard for them to go after her if she is unemployed.

Does your state require automobile liability insurance? If she doesn't have insurance that will be another ticket for her and the chances are she will lose her license for some amount of time. The police may even do more investigating and come up with more offenses to charge her with.

Did the police perform a field sobriety test on her? Usually an LEO will suspect something if her mannerisms are strange, her eyes are dilated, or she had slurred speech. Sometimes they will require a blood test to check for drugs/alcohol.

It sounds like the poor kid needs more help than jail time. She certainly could have caused further injuries to others or herself had you not stopped her. Somebody (or she) could have died.

Its a universal problem

I dont know about how you lot feel ;shrug.

But Im getting fed up with this lack of ownership that people are taking for the actions, that they controlling and therefore logically responsible for!

In this case, no one forced her to drive the car, she chose to, therefore she should be responsible for the full extent of her actions. in this case full restitution of the destruction she has caused! By however means necessary, to satisfy her victims!!!!

This also apply's to Parents. The other day I had an issue with a kid (about 10yrs) who opened the rear door of the 4x4 next to my vette, and hit the guard, not gently but twice hard, resulting in a fairly decent scratch to the top of the guard. It will be a re-spray, not a buff out., and therefore as you will all be aware the whole guard needs to be re-done. :cry

When I politely objected (yes I was polite - honest), the Mother who had come aroud to look at the damage, she (the non-speaking female dog) said "Whats the big deal, its only an old car" - WHAT! :mad

It took all my strength not to retaliate! :bash and to just continue to get insurance details etc to make her accountable for her responsibility, while she complained that she couldnt afford it, that her husband would be mad, that they are only children after all, and they do this type of thing and a myriad of other equally redundant reasons why I was being so unfair!!. :duh

I dont know what the solution to this apparent trend is, but the only way I know to deal with it, is to make people accountable for thier actions when I can, as I am to others, including my children.

Good Luck with your challenge, I hope she gets the result she deserves, and you get the result you have a right too!.

Sorry about the novel, but I do feel much better now - thank you!

Very well said, Grant!

I'm with you all the way on that subject. :upthumbs

Here in BC, for the purposes of prosecuting a DUI, a parking lot or even a driveway is fair game.

I'm glad you got her stopped. Depending on how messed up she was, she could have kept driving despite you cutting her off. Like you said, she would have killed herself or someone else.

The only good part about having just had your car painted is... the paint match will be easier!!

I woulda told her, that for her information, your car is worth more than her 4x4 (whether it is or not, she wouldn't know) and in 5 years it will be worth even more than her 4x4.
Yeah, I'd have to use a lot of restraint too if someone pulled that crap...

Man!! I think for punishment she should be sent to live with the Dakota Kid for a month for remedial training in snow shoveling and then shipped off to the GMjunkie for Redneck drivers training. (Additionally, this would include serious daily A$$ whoopings and freehand hog slopping as well as earning of the $$ for the repairs by working as a low cost provider at a Porky's type nightclub during the evenings.) Sorry your Vette got banged up!!

Couldnt agree with you more Grant.. Teaching Respect and taking responsibility seems to have gone away. I'm very much with you on the highlighted part, same here..
