"infla rest" lit up on message center..

..on our trip to Carlisle last week, this light came on in my dads 1990. The helpful owners manual said that "if this light comes on, you may have a problem with your inflation restraint system"
..

I know it could be a bunch of things...but do any of you know of maybe a sensor that I might check?
The "red seatbelt man" light was also lit in the dash, even though both seatbelts were buckled.
I'm trying to avoid taking this to the dealer if i can..
