Interior Exit Lighting & Telescopic Wheel Prob

Hey Everyone, I'm new to this forum and just took delivery of my '00 C5 coupe. Fortunately it has a warranty for 3mos/3K and a GMPP for 36mos/24K but it's still not easy to get the dealer to comply with it. Anyway, when I pull my key out of the ignition my interior lights no longer come on ... they did the first few days I had her. They come on fine when I unlock the car with the FOB or when I open the door to exit but not while sitting inside after pulling the key out of the ignition. Also, the telescopic wheel is supposed to retract inward and doesn't upon pulling the key out, nor does the telescopic wheel move in response to my memory 1 or 2, as it should. Any ideas? Thanks.

Welcome to the CAC! Hey, post some pics of your recent acquisition when you get a chance.

I wonder if your lights not coming on could be a programming feature. Hmm, I'm at work and will be leaving for home in a few minutes, so I can't do a search through the Knoweldgebase right now, but you could try searching the model center and seeing if you can find some programming options for interior lights on taking the keys out after parking. You can access it from the "Tech Center" tab at the top of the page. If not, I can take a look for you when I get home and back online.

I think the Mem option only works if you lock or unlock with the key fob.. To reset hold the Mem 1 or 2 for 5 sec it will flash twice.. In addition, your key fobs have a 1 or 2 on back that corresponds to that setting on the door switch. I also think the Mem can be turned off or on through the dic settings button 4 (options)

Thanks for the info, I'll check into it. The only reason I'm concerned about it being a real problem is that seemingly nothing changed between the couple of times the lights came on after shutting down and removing the key vs. when they did not. They just seemed to stop lighting on about the 3rd or 4th time I shut the car off and pulled the key. But I'm not real familiar with the car either. I bought it 2 weeks ago and found probs that immediately sent it back to the shop for 2 weeks and then picked it up again this past Friday.

I'm no expert, but I would guess an electrical surge could have erased a programmed setting. Or, a subsequent programmed setting (if you adjusted something) might have overwritten a previous protocol. Like I said, I'm not an expert on the electrical systems.

Hopefully, C4C5Specialist will see this thread in the morning and have some ideas about what could be the root cause, and how you can overcome it.

Move the telescopic switch 7 or 8 times in a row. This should connect path back to computer.

About the problem w/ the lights ... sorry, I have no answers and will leave it to those who have such experiences and resolutions. I am sure they will come around and pitch in ... just be patient!!!

I suspect something else here.
Your telescopic steering wheel and your lighting system to react is to 'see' the key being removed from the ignition. If it is not seen, then the BCM will not react and the easy entry steering column and the lighting will not function.
If for some reason the ignition lock cylinder is not lubricated correctly, or the button inside does not move when the key is removed, the functions you mentioned will not work.
I would suggest checking the ignition lock cylinder and switch for further issues.

Thanks, I'll be taking it back to the dealer in about a week or so after I complile a comprehensive list of issues. I appreciate the clue to the ignition lock cylinder. At least I can point them in that direction if they try to bs me. I've just gotten this car from a dealer I never did business with before, and already I've learned how sneaky they are.
