Why not do exhaust, and some intake work. Alot of guys have the open air lid, with a K & N filter. I have ram air that works pretty good. You could also get a computer chip. That isn't too much. Just some quality time between you and your vette.

You're all probably right about the mods. Maybe I should wait until the car is on my driveway, open the hood, and think about what I'm prepared to do to it. I have a good set of tools that have been dormant since I bought a new Honda in 2003 (oh, the shame) and I like skinning my knuckles!

<grin> I'd have to be careful, though. There's a lot of modified imported 11 second rice-burners here in NZ.

And, would you believe, you can have your car impounded for 28 days for "unnecessary acceleration" or "sustained loss of traction."

Cha! It's a risk I'll have to take!

If you are looking for simple acceleration, how come no one has mentioned just going to a taller first gear? Drop a 4.11 rear end in your car and you'll have all the acceleration you'll want!

On the Jaguar forums that I frequent, there's always argument about K&N filters. Some people rave about them, some blame them for bore wear due to inefficient filtering. I guess that there's the same differing opinions here?

Just take things slowly and it will depend on what you wind up. Exhaust and all of the simple mods and then the biggest bang for the buck is the rear end. After that pass.

As far as the 11 sec ricer's they sure are fast but can they take the turns and stop in time?

Just relax and things will work out.

Yes it would, and personally I think that is way to high. If I am to assume you will be driving this car around, and it wont be a track car right? Depending on what vette you get, some come with the performance axle of 3.07's. Which will have pretty good acceleration. The most I would go would be around 3.50's.

Yes - not quite a daily driver, but I don't want it to spend Monday to Friday cooped up in the garage. Some weekdays use the 1.3 liter 81hp 50mpg Honda, other days frighten my conservative colleagues by turning up in our small carpark in the Vette.

Weekends give lifts to my four kids - 9, 6, 5, 2 - the older three of whom are longing for Daddy to get a red Corvette.

Highway mileage isn't the greatest, but since you rarely run it full throttle anyways...and it's not a daily driver...how much are you really going to lose in gas money??? I've always said that "if you are a penny-pincher, then you shouldn't own a Corvette..." I don't care about the price of gas because when I drive my vette, I'm happy. And gas is simply part of the cost of admission. So go with 3.73's then...not as radical, but it'll still give you noticable difference on the ol' "butt dyno".
