Hello all,
Heres another quirky one. When the car is cold my "Door Ajar" light comes on during braking, left turns and bumpy roads. I have even had it appear while lowering the passenger window and go out when I raise the window. Both doors ant the hatch are closed and secure. Do I have a short or a loose switch somewhere. The whole thing goes away once everything is warmed up. It's not so bad during the day, but at night with the interior lights popping on and off, it gets quite distracting. Any help??

Door Ajar

There have been several threads on 'door ajar'

Do a search for 'door ajar' or 'door ajar switch' using the 'search' tab above.

I don't have my service manuals handy or would look it up. Your passenger door switch is likely out of 'adjustment' but I don't know how the 'adjustment' is done without looking it up.

I'm not sure that there is an adjustment for the switch. I had a similar problem and fixed it by glueing a thin, plastic disk to the spot where the switch "lands" when the door is shut. It was thick enough to completely open the switch and stop the intermittent opening and closing.

If I remember correctly you can read CCM data from either the IP or the DIC that will tell you which switch is causing this. You can then investigate further or replace the switch.

I don't have a manual with me but I can check later today if needed.

The switch on the door has a center pin that can be extended to adjust it. When mine started acting like this, I found the right door switch to be the problem and the adjuster pin would not stay out after being extended. So, I got a very small o-ring and slipped it over the adjusting pin to keep it from going all the way in. That's been working fine now for about 4 years. I may have to check that o-ring to see if it needs replacing!

Thanks guys!

I really appreciate the responses. The passenger door switch was the culprit. Unfortunately, while removing the unit, the clips or whatever the two screws went into fell inside the door. Oh well, a larger diameter screw with a thin washer behind it screwed right into the door. Problem solved.......for now!!

Oh yeah, the service manual says to remove one screw, loosen the other, rotate the switch, install a long screw in the position where you removed the screw and then remove the other screw. The backing plate will fall inside the door if you don't.
