I was pondering selling the 'Vette and I made my decision that I'm going to sell it.

It's just the age of the vehicle starting to catch up to it. The engine and tranny are still very smooth, even with 102K on the odometer.

The car needs cosmetic work. I suspect that the previous owner didn't do a very good paint job to it because the paint is too thick in some areas. The paint is starting to chip and peel away on portions of the passenger side. I'm just tired of fixing cars and I don't want to spend the money to have the car painted.

The car is showing typical aging that a 17 year old car is showing.

I want more power. I know I can take care of that problem with a rebuilt or new motor but I would never be satisfied because I want a 6 speed.

I also want a car that will easily pass emissions. Here in Illinois, they actually run pre-'96 cars on the wheels and sniff the exhaust. If I get something '96 and newer with the OBDII, they just plug the OBDII in and if you don't throw any codes, you pass.

All that leads to a very logical choice: the LT4. It has the power that I want (though it wouldn't be stock for long), it has the 6 speed, it has the C4 look that I love so much, it has OBDII and they're quite affordable.

That being said, I have to sell the '88 before I can make a move on an LT4. Financing a car doesn't sound very appealing to me so I would like to pay cash if I can save up the money. I may also sell my '84 Z28 to use towards the LT4.

I'll post an ad here on CAC when I get the time tonight to do a full write up with details and such.

Good luck Edmond!

I'm looking forward to joining the LT4 crew with you, soon!

Hi Edmond,
I know you've been thinking about this for awhile. Now that you've made the decision, I hope it goes smoothly for you and you find a nice new ride to enjoy.

John

Good luck and happy hunting!!

Pretty exciting stuff Edmond!
The hunt for a Corvette is a lot of fun. Keep us posted, best of luck in your search.

Edmond, nothing wrong with moving up… I have seen some great deals on LT4´s; just do not go native and buy a Toyota.:D:L;LOL

Thunder has 127000 miles on the clock but most of the parts have less than 15000 and between the kart track and the racing team I have enough tools to rebuild the Lunar Rover and plenty of time to work on the car while at work. Back when I had a real Job I drove a newer Vette.

Sweet1

Hey Edmond, are you going to try and find one with mods or without?:_rock If you could find a Z06 for 20 grand, would you buy it instead? How about a blown c5?Just curious.Shannon

OH YEA that would be sweet, SPANISH :bang Happy hunting Edmond :w

Spanish,

I've been native with a Toyota for the past 5+ years!:L My Camry has over 165,000 on the clock. It's been good to me and the time will come to replace that but I want to replace the 'Vette first. Actually, I want to replace the Camry with a GTO in a couple of years. Trying to do surveillances at high speed in a 185hp V6 Camry isn't very fun. But doing high speed surveillance in a 400hp GTO would be much easier.:D

The hunt for the car itself won't start until I've sold the '88. If I could get a car with the mods I want, I would go for it. For now, the mods that I would inevitably do anyway are the exhaust system from headers all the way to a stainless exhaust system and a better flowing air intake system.

Since the majority of LT4's are running in the 350hp range, I figured that would give me a little more go.

Tuning, heads and cam would definitely be in the future. I think I would be happy with the 3.42's because of the all around driving that I do.

There are a few things that have me being against a C5: the steering column lock issue, oil consumption in cylinder number 2 and the styling.

One thing I've learned is to not settle. I know that if I "settle" on the Corvette that I don't want, I won't be happy. If I go 'Vetteless for a few months, so be it. If it takes a few months for me to sell the '88 and to save up some more money, I may just buy in the dead of winter because I know the winter time is a buyers market.

Edmond...LT4...Oh yeah! You'll love it!

Happy hunting man! :lou

I can't wait to see your dyno results either!:D

Edmond,

There is a guy at work that's got a '96 CE, 6 speed, not sure of the LT-4. Car is in great shape low miles, $15K I think. Monday I'll find out if its got the LT-4.

If it's a 6 speed, it has to the LT4. The 6 speeds only came in the LT4's.

Edmond,

I'm glad your sticking with a C4! i like both the L98 and LT1 styling. i like the roughness but very agressive and sexy lines of the L98 cars. the LT1's are sleeker but yet still have the sexy lines of the C4 that i like. too bad you can't keep the 88 and still buy the 96. with that being said there are NICE deals on LT4's out there. one of my friends that is a CAC member but hasn't posted in a year and moved to virginia beach bought his LT4 with 40k miles for 15k. 3 years ago!

i can only speak for myself but i enjoy building the car into what i want out of it. eventually i want a 6 speed and a super built 700R4 so i can just swap out for drags and streets. right now the 82 Z/28 will have the T56 6 speed and the vette stays auto but will be built soon along with the new motor. i'd love to get my hands on an LT4 car! i'd have it in the 10's on a cam/ heads setup in no time :D but i don't think i could get rid of my 82 Z and or 87 vette. my 82 Z is getting a full drivetrain and suspension build sometime this fall. i've had her for 14 years and she is in rough shape from sitting for the last 7 years. i've thought about many times selling her just to get rid of her but being a rare car with rear disc brakes from the factory and being my first street sports car i always had a dream of running some ORR with her one day.

one day maybe one day.....

Good Luck with your search! and when you are ready for parts let me know :upthumbs

Mic,

I know what you're talking about. The biggest thing are the emissions nazi's here. They're just horrific. It's like they want you to fail!

With an OBDII car, it just has to pass the OBDII scan. Without OBDII, the car has to be run on the sniffer.

Edmond, good luck my friend. I would also get an 96 LT-4, 6 speed manual if I could find a good one in Turkey, they are so rare here. Mine is 95 LT-1 but it has 6 speed manual tranny. I am confused with your "The 6 speeds only came in the LT4's"???

Cheers,

Selim
