Thanks in advance.

I swear, someday I'm gonna make a video on how to raise and position your C4 on jackstands. This question gets asked so much and I do it so often... :L

Ken, that would be a great idea. I am sure there are many others, like me, who have been burned by supposedly knowledgeable repair people who have damaged their C4s due to improper jacking or improper placement of jack stands. I have seenand been the victim of such improper placement, and I am probably overly cautious when doing this myself. I would rather have too much information than not enough. It is hard to find clear instructions on how to do this, which explains why so many C4 owners ask this question.

I was looking at the pics from the ZR-1 link, are those really safe places toput the stands under!!!

Does anybody else use those locations, No offense, just looks scaaaaary.

I'm really paranoid about this.;shrug

I have on a .pdf file the Complete Instructions of Jacking, Lifting & Hoisting of my '89. Similar to other years, I'm sure. It has all the Do's & Don'ts along with clear diagrams for locations. If anyone would like I need a private e-mail cause it's 220K large. Hope this helps.....:w

The author of that site gives a perfect example of how to raise the vehicle and postion on jackstands. Kudos! The only things better would be if the images were a little clearer and that he show how to raise the rear in one lift, utilizing a piece fabricated for the floor jack saddle to reach between the rear Y-pipe to the differential housing. The item is available on the aftermarket, and is known as a "Jack-A-Vette" which sells for around $75-80 the last I looked. It can be fabricated for next to nothing, or as in my case - nothing at all! My friend Will welded up something for me. :cool

The only thing I do differently from what is shown on the ZR-1 site is that I position my stands directly on the ridge where the frame rails are welded together, instead of off to the side where it is flat. Either way is safe as far as I can see. :upthumbs

As long as its on the frame you should be fine. I've never had any problems.

Ken,

You know, that’s not a bad idea... if you made a comprehensive video on properly positioning a C4 on jackstands that would be great. If you went on and included footage of changing engine oil, air filter, chassi lube points, break pads, installing a CAGS skip-shift eliminator, etc., you might have something.

There are thousands of C4 owners out there! There are those that are new to the Corvette experience and would probably purchase a DVD on regular maintenance of a C4. If you contacted Mid-America/Ecklers, with such a DVD to have in their catalogs, I don’t think you’d have a problem marketing it to them.

You could introduce tools too! Torque wrenches, and how to use them, different oil filter removal tools, etc.

One thing, if you go ahead with it, give me a shot at designing your DVD cover insert! (I’m a graphic designer, I’m sure I can fit it into my schedule).

That's good info, now I can save several steps getting my car up tomorrow, but wait, I'm gonna have to take a trip to Boston to get a hockey puck;LOL :bash :beer
