Ken,

Did you go with a later model mini starter like is found on the 88-96 models?

If not, hurry up and change it out now while it is still in the shop. It is sooooooooo cool to hear that tight little wind before the beast roars vs. the older larger bodies starters that just kinda drag/grind a little as they spin.

Do you guys know what I am talking about???????


I put a mini high torque starter even on the big block and it sounds like a toyota camry as it spins, then ROARRRRRRRR the motor screams to life and scares women and little children in a three block radius:Twist

The mini starter is shown on www.ecklers.com ,front page. No heat sink or header clearence problems. Look good too. Kinda sounds like one of them big Mopars cranking to life.

Rod to camshaft clearance

Ken,

Did your builder have to clearance the rods for camshaft clearance like this? Go to the second, third and fourth picture.

Tom, I believe his solution was to use a small base circle cam, if I remember correctly.

Bullitt, it's a '74 'Cuda, 360cid, 4-barrel, automatic transmission.

The owner will eventually do a complete restoration, but for now, Will is just making it road-worthy and safe to drive. It has potential.

It's always something!

Now we discover a leaking injector for #6 cylinder; it's no wonder I thought it sounded a little strange as we were breaking-in the cam. The header tube for that cylinder didn't even discolor at the flange as the rest. The good news is that Summit will accept the return and honor the warranty even if it's not in the original package.

Another discovery was the fact that I must have tweaked the frame ever so slightly when I crashed it in '96; the Camber Brace that I got from Dave at R-D Racing doesn't fit. It's close but no cigar.

There is an ever-widening gap appearing between what I spent on parts and what is actually going on the car! :L

Yeah Phil, I gonna need a lot of patience now that I got it back and the sorting-out has begun.

I got it back today; I now have 10 miles on the engine! :L I don't know how many miles I'm going to be able to put on it as it currently stands though -- it is much, much louder. Too loud for the street.

It's not actually too loud, it's just that because there is no cat now, and the fact that the "Side Effects" is basically a straight-through system albeit a bit convoluted, that it now sounds like the old days of the glasspack. When you are idling or cruising along without pushing it, it's pretty mellow (Like a Pro Stocker is mellow! :L) But if you give it some throttle, or if you're backing off the throttle, it snarls and pops and cackles like crazy. I'm gonna get busted for sure if I try to run it like that.

Man, it wants to run though!



See the red insulating material down there by #4 cyclinder? That's wrapped around the fuel line to prevent vapor lock; it was easier for now to do that rather than re-route the fuel line. I'll have to address that issue soon too.



At least I got it back and was able to get a taste of what's to come yet. 535+ at the flywheel, that means 450+ at the wheels!

It's rolling - that's what counts. Those small loose ends add CHARACTER to the experience! Like today, the second day I've driven the car to work after spending the better part of a week and a half stripping off all my old wax and giving the car a full 4 coats of Zaino so I can drive it thru crap on the road. I pull in for a tank full of Amoco Ultimate. IT won't start! Takes 12-15 tries and finally catches. Runs great after it starts BUT it's building CHARACTER! Enjoy! Phil (aka 89ZZ4)
