I have an 87 c4 w/ 275 40 17s on all four.
The rears look like they could go a bit larger, but I wanta check here 1st . Anyone had larger than 275 40 on the rear (eg next size up? Any contact issues? (Im not gonna wanna raise body height or spring rates just to have a larger tire..) They all need to be changed so I wanted to ask now. Oh I see a problem now. If I have a flat I have a 50% chance of being without a spare . Not worth that

It's a give and take world.
You can go with the ZR1/Grand Sport rear tires and they work just fine (315/35/17) but, that tire will not fit in the spare tire holder. You have to put a flat 315 in the trunk, which means owning a coupe.

Most 93-96 C4 came with 285/40/17 tires on the rear. You can use that size front and rear on the 9.5 inch wheel.

Somehow I left this out. Its an 88 c4 with 245 75 17s

Like Tuna said, 285/40 x 17 will work with existing 9 1/2" wheels. If you go to the 315 you'll need 11" wheels. My personal choice would be 275/40 x 17 all around. I had this size tire on my 94 on all 4 corners, and if I had a flat this size fits in the spare compartment. Are you sure they are 245/75 x 17? Not 245/45 x 17? A 245/75 would be almost 31 1/2" tall...the tires on my truck aren't much bigger than that! A 245/45 x 17 would be about 25 5/8" tall, roughly the same diameter as the 275/40 x 17.....which would be another reason to go to the 275s no change in the speedometer. Just saying.

I hope this helps you in your decision.

Oh thats funny. If the c4 had a 4x4 truck chassis under it,I could see that. Ill just leave the size alone..its fine as it is
