I am getting ready to do some repairs and mods to this beautiful 71 convertible.

I will be installing a steeroids system, getting the trans overhauled (jumps out of first gear), and fixing numerous oil leaks.

Just finished yanking it today.

The strangest thing happened. The yoke on the back of the trans had no u bolts in it. So, there was NO way to remove the driveshaft without pulling the engine!

I will be getting him a standard yoke when I put it back together.

Here it is coming up and out. You gotta love the support beam in the shop ceiling, and the old fashion pulley block and tackle unit.

Engine now on rollers.

I will lift it up later, pull the pan, front cover, and install a new front and rear main.

Looks good Chris! The Steeroids mod is pretty cool. Be sure to let us hear about the difference in handling. BTW, where did you buy the steeroids, and how much? If you don't mind my asking. I had a '71 vert when I was in high school, great car, lots of fun!

closer....

Just finished doing a complete engine reseal job, new front, main, pan, etc. etc.

Plus, I detailed up the engine a tad.

Watcha think?

Nikki picked this junk out of the oil pick up.

This is not a numbers matching motor. However, it is basically brand new inside---a total reman.

We bought the steeroids from Speed Direct. The price was around $1,100.

It should be here soon, and I hope to have the car ready for a quick install.

I dropped the trans at the shop yesterday, and hope it will be done quick.

check this out.

This car had a terrible oil leak problem coming from the front.

In the following pic, I am attempting to show you the front main seal. Look close, you will see it was never pushed all the way in the timing cover.

That junk was all stuck in the oil pick up? :eek
And yeah, nice job they did on the crank seal on the timing cover! Who did the rebuild job, "Bubba's Engine Service"? It looks nice now though, Chris! Good Work!

Looks nice.......

It will look better when I lace up all the loose wires, and extra stuff.

He is bringing over the freshly ceramic coated headers tonight.

Most appealing picture had to be your wifes hand covered in oil holding metal parts.

You sure know how to pic em.... cars I mean ;LOL

Bill

....are you sure that was the same engine going back in as the one that came out? What an excellent job of not only fixing its problems, but making it look brand new !! :)

Very Nice, I would have never tried to pull out the motor and trans without pulling out radiator and support out. But I guess I always play it safe. Very nice...

Man, I wish my engine looked like that!! Nice Job Chris!!

Nice work Chris. I don't suppose you have ever dropped that chain on a fender. :L I know I have.
