Keeping you all up to date with this week's problems....

#1: The Scoggins-Dickey clutch pivot support for the 502 does not fit when using a Lakewood scattershield.
clutch-pivot-bracket-350.jpg

The scattershield and block plate are wider than the stock aluminum bellhousing. How to fix it? Out comes the dremel to remove about a 3/16" of metal from the scattershield and block plate along a 4" - 5" plane where the right edge (in this photo) of the support approaches the scattershield. :eyerole Otherwise, I can't get the bolts through the support into the scattershield. The bolt holes are not visible in this photo.

#2: The DeWitt's SP022 — Aluminum Radiator & dual Spal Fans does not fit in my '67 in combination with the Vette Brakes Performance Plus suspension - in particular, with the new upper A-Arms.
radiator-500.jpg

A 1.5" length (about 1/2" deep) of the plastic fan surround on the driver's side must be cut away (at roughly the 9:30 position in this photo) to clear the forward area of the A-Arm and large washer. Likely, this is not DeWitt's fault as the rad/fan combo may work fine with the stock '67 suspension. Since I no longer have the stock suspension, I can't say for sure. Also, it does appear that getting the upper rad hose on to the new rad may prove difficult as the upper rad support seems to be very close to the area where the hose will want to be. Since I don't have the hose yet, we'll have to wait to see.

#3: My old Hooker headers won't bolt on to the 502 aluminum heads. No real surprise here as others have run into this problem. Removing a small amount of metal from the lower header flange area may solve the problem - the four lower head bolts are in the way. Until I see the old headers bolted on properly, I'm not ordering new ones.

The battle continues....... :Silly

Bob,

If it was easy, it wouldn't mean so much to you when it was done!!!
Regards, John McGraw

I'm not seriously distressed by these latest developments. After learning that almost "nothing" that I've bought fits properly, I'm getting used to it. :gap Had I chosen to keep the car stock, I'd have been finished months ago. For example, it took 20 months just to find, obtain and install the new wide-body fenders. :eyerole That's close to two years. :(

And, so much else depended on the fit of the fenders. Wheels, tires, bumpers, signal light panels, inner fender splash panels, etc.

Then there was the upgrade to a Richmond 5-speed with transmission mount and linkage problems.

Minor birdcage repairs, media blasting of the emtpy body shell, new IRS everything, frame blasting, God*, stop me. I could go on forever.

I've come to realize that when you build a hotrod, you get there when you get there. But, I'm still having fun. More and more visitors drop by every evening. It's turning into a garage party. :SLAP

Solving the problems is the fun of building that type of project (atleast after you have solved it). It will be cool when it is done.

BTW, there is a long line forming outside your garage.:L

There is going to be one small problem when this car is done though. I'll be too bloody tired to drive it. Anyone care to serve as chauffeur? :Steer
Damn, I wanted to be first in line to offer but look how many got in front of me! Kinda like going to Carlisle at noon opening day and thinking you'd be first in line ! ;LOL Hang in there, you always work through it.:upthumbs Grab a few beer and relax over the holiday. Step back and admire your progress so far. See ya later.

Bob,

Now, quit trying to make it sound like you aren't having fun. :L I think we all know better and that you are capable of handling these new surprises. :D Just think of all the stories you can tell folks when they ask you about the project.

You folks should know that, behind the scenes, Rich is offering lots of expert advice on solving these and other issues. Thanks Rich.

Bob,
I've been following like many others here on the progress and i gotta say: Hats off to you !!
I'd thrown some parts by now, but you just pluck away at it.. Looks awesome and is sure a sign for what it'll look like when she's done. I'll stand in line just to get a glimpse.

Heck... I threw a wrench last week and it was just over a silly oil filter. :L

I could not do what you are doing... wish I could.

Keep it up 67... it's fun just to watch! :beer

Just keep wrenchin', just keep wrenchin', just keep wrenchin'.... :crazy

Way back in 1968-69, we installed an original set of side-mount headers by Kustom Headers of Flint, Michigan. Much later, after they rusted away, we switched to these Hookers. By then, Kustom was no longer in business.

It's almost time to buy new ones, so, very soon, the decision will have to be made. Black? White? Chrome?

I vote for chrome. I think it would offset against the red of the car and especially against the black valve covers great and look awesome
