Hi, I'm new to the CAC, but have been reading and following all the action for over 2 years (mainly the C-6 stuff). Guess it's about time I signed up and said hello.

I decided to sign up cause I noticed something I thought was relavant. Has anyone else noticed, that in all the spy shots of the C-6, there are NO visible door locks??? Is this nothing new? Something regular for a test car? Or is it a revealing detail that the C-6 will be like the Caddie and have remote only doors and possibly a keyless starting system?

Interested to hear what you think! Thanks for such a great forum...I can't wait for the C-6!!!

Welcome to this great forum. I hope your right. I can't wait for a car that doesn't need keys.

WELCOME Buster :upthumbs

The door locking system is 100% Cadillac XLR no key locks indeed.

You're EDIT if you lose your keys though....;help

What happens if the system fails? Is there a manual way to unlock the car or start it? I have read on this forum where people have had problems with their PKE systems..... so what if that happens?

Yeah, I was wondering that too. And what about theft? Dudes can use "code grabbers" to find and unlock automatic garage doors...what if they could do that with your new C-6! Yikes.;help

I'm sure there are manual backup systems or something. I wouldn't worry about either it breaking or the crooks getting the car. I have faith the system is pretty much fail safe...

Besides we've all got warranties or insurance.

Not a popular opinion yet its pretty much how I look at these advancements.

I hate fumbling around for keys...which set for which car...etc..

Its a big pain in the @ss...and I'd be willing to forego that agony for this credit card locking system.

Looks to be a very cool way to go..

PS...what about valet parking the car? Must be a *****...

I was told by a guy from Cadillac that the keyless starter will not be on the Vette but who knows.

a valet ?

imagine what would go threw a valet's head when he sees a beautiful corvette pull up!
"sorry pal, just dropping off the wife, i will park it thanks. heres a 5 spot to just keep your hands off it."

no matter what generation it is , this car is not made for a valet.
thats why they make ford mustangs!

budweisert,

WATCH YOUR MOUTH.

When taking a tour of the plant this past september, a few of us got a special tour of the XLR assembly line. The person who gave us the tour (high up in GM heirarchy) took us to where there were 10 amethyst colored XLR's waiting to have some things worked out (speakers replaced...small things). These were the Neiman-Marcus catalog models. The door lock was a rubber touchpad on the inside of a fold where the door handle usually goes. This gentleman told us a story about Wil Cooksey taking a pre-production model home. When he went to the store, the pcm screwed up and wouldn't let him in the car. He had to have it towed back to the plant. Needless to say, Mr. Cooksey was not very happy. So under the rear bumper is a keylock to unlock the doors in case of an emergency.

So when would car thieves find out where the emergency key is hidden, will they be able to steal the car once they get in the car??

all they need is the vin# from the dash, give it to a buddy at a GM dealership and he can have a new key cut to drive off with your pride and joy. take my advice cover your VIN #. my wife worked for a chevy dealer and that is how the got into car that the keys got lost.

Your wife works at a crappy dealership. The dealership should ask for ID, proof that you own the car either through registration insurance or another form.

You can not just walk into a dealership with a vin and ask for a key :eyerole

While you're at it, might as well cover up your license plate so they can't find out where you live so they can sneak into your garage as well.

you stupid s--t they did this if the dealership lost a key. it is also a lot more likely to have a crooked employee at a dealership than for someone to get your address from your plate number because only the police have privy to that info.

Thanks for the personal attack *******.

You still do not get it.

The only vehicles that are like that, are Volvo, Mercedes, Jaguar where the keys are laser cut and can only come from the factory.

GM makes 100's upon thousands of vehicles. They don't even know what VAT code you have on your vehicle.

As far as your plate. You'd be amazed.

all the GM dealer does is fax GM the VIN and in minutes the VAT code and the key code to cut the new key comes to the dealer. i have stood there while they faxed my VIN to get me extra keys for my new C-5s. that is why any crooked employee at a GM dealer can cut a proper key for your car if they have your VIN. i cover the VIN on on all my C-5s with black tape. some states this is illegal to cover your VIN number. i keep the faxed replys for my C-5s in my file here at home in case i need more keys cut. even the police can not get a address from a plate # unless the have a "case file number". some of my best friends are state police and i know how the system works.

I'll take your high and mighty word on it
