I just wanted to say how happy i am at the results of my first attempt using my new orbital buffer/polisher. Unfortunately, the pic i attached doesn't do the results justice.

I went to Sears about a month or so ago, picked up the Craftsman 6-in buffer/polisher for $30 and got a bunch of pads. Total cost ~$50.

Last weekend I used 3M polish/swirl remover (for dark cars) on the entire car. Today, i used Meguirar's Gold Class with SPECTACULAR results.

Happy Easter,
John

All waxed up and lookin' good :cool

Were you able to significantly reduce the swirls and fine scratches? I can't seem to get anything to work. I am a little hesitant to use a buffer myself. I had a pro do it and I think he added more swirls.

If i knew it would have come out this great, i would have bought this a year ago. I spent $100 for a detail shop to do what i did in a couple hours. Its not "as" good as theres was, but it looks great for the effort that i put. I expect the "next" time I wax the vette for it to come out even better (since i know what to do).

Obvious swirls and fine scratches are negligible, very solid and smooth surface. Of course its not perfect, but a HUGE increase in appearance from all the scratches i put on during the winter. Since my vette is black, its significantly more difficult to keep clean and remove the scratches, everything shows.

I put the polish and wax on by hand, the orbital polisher came with some surgeon mask type material (spunbond) applicators, I didnt like them. Used several terry cloth buffers to buff off the wax, and a few goes over with the furry lambskin buffer really made it shine.

I dont know about you guys, but i used to be "afraid" to do anything to my finish... like use a orbital polisher. No longer. I'm tell'in yah, spend $50 at Sears and get a orbital polisher with some extra terry cloth pads. You wont damage the finish, you'll only make it look great!

I am now a believer,
John :) :) :)

Way to go, John. Meguiars rocks!
