Can anyone comfirm that the valve covers which come with the LT1 engines in 1993 where made of plastic? Came over this on the web and i had a plan to remove mine and send them to a chrome treatment as i believed they where made of aluminum.

Thanks and regards,
Steve, Norway

’93 valve covers were a composite plastic, it was the first year for it. The shift in materials was done to help lessen valve train noise.

As B17Crew stated Steve the 93 covers are plastic composite so chroming is not an option. It is popular here to have them painted to match the car along with the fuel rail covers, and that does brighten up the engine compartment unless you have a black car. I think they would look good in Bright Aqua Metallic! ;)

No chrome then. Thanks, had no idea that it was plastic.

Regards,
Steve

Another option is to replace them. These are on my 93, they are powder coated but are kind of pricey.

There are less expensive aluminum and steel ones available too in several finishes including chrome.

Here's another idea

The valve covers from L98's (provided there of the center bolt variety will also fit) Late 86 and up.They are finned and made out of magnesium. They can be found at swap meets fairly cheap. :beer
