Guys, I'm looking at some regular LT4's (not the special edition blue admiral/silver ones) and am very confused as to what was the stock wheel/tire size and the options. And also if the car has the Z51 option, does that mean that all 4 tires were 275/40/17's?

I read some of the links showing the technical specs but it still seams confusing.

Was it possible to have the Z51 option come with 255 fronts/285 rears?

I'm so frickin' confused. I want to buy a stock vette only and not one that has been modified with an alternate wheel/tire size (even if it fits correctly).

Yes.

Possible? Sure. Lots of things can happen during a car's life.

Did GM build any cars like that?

Nope. Only base cars got 255, front and 285, rear.

Best way to see if a car was originally a Z51 or not is to look at the RPO label.

The '96 Z51 cars all came with 9.5" wide wheels and the 275/40/17 tires (except for the Grand Sport coupe which got the 11" wide rear wheels.

Check the RPO code list sticker (rear compartment lid I believer) for options.

The Base suspension cars and the Real Time Dampening (F45) cars came with 8.5" front and 9.5" rear wheels with the 255/285 tire combination. The 'run-flat' tire option was also a 255/285 tire combination. I don't believe Z51 and run-flat could be ordered together.

rhkwon, first off welcome to CAC, we're glad that you are here. I believe that Hib and Tuna have given you the straight scoop and Hot Rod's link is very informative. Good luck with your search for that perfect LT4.
