What is the maximum advance I can run at WOT? I know every car is different but what is the normal?

Go until it spark knocks.

I've heard some guys run 12 degrees with good results.

Hmm I meant the advance curve of the ECM, or the total advance say If I floored it and the maximum advance went to 35. I was curious what is the maximum it can go to before I get into the danger zone..

I have heard some say you want your maximum advance in at around 3000 RPM's. I am not sure what the total advance is on our cars.

I used to convert engines to LP gas and worked with advance curve everyday. On most gasoline engines the max total advance was about 37 deg.For the propane we had to cut that back to about 32 deg. This was done at about 3500 rpm. The higher octane your fuel is the sooner you can have it come in. Hope that helps you.

Glenn's Right 37-38 deg. I'v run'em higher 42-45 on Hypo motors but thay won't Last Long!!:upthumbs junk!!

So the advance curve is pre set by the factory right? So for instance if my base timing is at 6 degrees, and I am fully advancing to 40 or so, how do I cut that back. Decrease the base timing. And if I decrease the base timing, wont the car have worse throttle response?

Ok what are you workin on? 86? :) junk!!

I failed to make it clear that 37 deg was the combination of initial and mechanical. This did not include the vacuum. Before they started with strange setups for emissions full vacuum advance was about 15 deg. On high vacuum situations the total of the three could be as high as 52 deg.So the ECM would likely advance to about the same.

Yes working on my 86. I know on my Trans Am the guy who did my advance curve set it up for 24 degrees mechanical. So I have the car set to 36 degrees full advance at 300 RPMS. So the base timing falls back to 12 degrees or so.

How does it work on my 86??
