My goodness the wheels, tires, and drilled rotors are going to really be beautiful! The tires look like such a low profile they look to be 2 inches high between the wheel and the pavement! I hope the orange/yellow lettering stays too! The pictures in the Mag are much more clear then the internet ones I think. :D

Quote: Headlights will not be hidden, A blue Nissan 350ZX follows in the background was being used for comparisons. See I told you guys the Nissan was being used as a C5 and C6s bench mark car. Hmmm now I wonder if the Nissan will be used as a Price benchmark? You know it makes me wonder if C6 is not going to be a LESS EXPENSIVE car? They could just do that because the Camaro/Firebird is gone, and the Addition of XLR to share price costs. Think about that concept, If they lowered the price Lets say 10 grand, they would sell tons more cars and get the lost Camaro/Firebird sales and even steal possible 05 Mustang buyers away. More volume can mean lower price and lower price would surly mean much higher production numbers to off set the lower price? If they are using the much cheaper Nissan to benchmark C6 it could be very possible indeed!

Ross - thanks for posting this. It is great to see you active here, even if by a different name.:)

Lowering the price is an interesting spin, however despite your logic on picking up the lost Camaro / Firebird sales, can you really see the General reducing the price? Extremely unlikely....

I think that they're playing a dangerous game if they raise prices too much more. Currently, Corvette always scores well with "value per dollar" tests. Now, though, lots of cars are coming out with lots of horsepower and not lots of cost. I think those cars will fill the F-body void. Mustang Cobras now have 390 hp. The Z is going to have more very soon. Not to mention the Evo and WRX, which are very high performers for the cost.

I know that the above is an apples to oranges comparison, but Corvettes are already starting to push $60,000, especially if the Lemans commemorative edition adds a few grand to the price.

To me, they have to at least slow the rate of price increases on this thing before they price themselves out of the market.

I know its wishful thinking, but there could be some logic to it. Why, I wonder when they build a new Corvette compare it to a Less expensive car. Is the Nissan THAT GOOD? ( I have never driven one) You would think they would test it against a car closer to its price point. That would be like Cadillac testing the XLR against the Sebring Vert. I wonder what gives.

Judging by the wrapper, YES
No other new car has turned my head as much as the new Z - esp in the brownish black cherry color :beer

Going the wrong way

I just read an article reporting that GM is raising the prices on 2003 models for the 6th time.

A fully loaded 50th anniv. vert costs $57,575.00 when I go to the "build your own" link on the GM site. I didn't even opt for the Z51 suspension.

I don't think that this is necessarily a bad thing. You get what you pay for. I think that the Vette is light years ahead of anything built by Nissan. But, as stated above, they should probably stop comparing it to those things if this is the amount of money we're talking about. We're getting into the price range of affordable homes now (fixer-uppers, at least).

Yea but the Corvette has always been a car that the working man could aspire for and afford. Now at nearly 60K thats pretty impossible if you ask me. I think the Corvette pricing is getting out of the reach of most people, The Lexus Vert is $64K and its a LOT more car then a C5. A few people in my Corvette club sold there C5 Verts and got the Lexus. Its just getting way to expensive for anyone with an income below 100K to even consider.

I agree that the Vette shouldn't be comapred by GM to other cars, however I still think they will not reduce the price of the C6. Look at the current model year price vs an '02. With all the hype on this veicle, I just don't see it happening. Now they should make it well worth the expense and eliminate the cheesy accents of the C5. It almost appears that GM has conceded the younger driver to the competition due to price.

Autoweek is not easy to come by can you tell me where it's sold?

Remember back in 1990 when $60,000 was an amount only certain individuals could afford for the ZR1?

Cfour- I think we're on the same page. I do think that it's a shame that some of Corvette's biggest enthusiasts are getting priced out of the game.

It seems to me that some of the folks that own Corvettes and are not necessarily enthusiasts are moving cars that have the "stature" that the new Vette's prices ususally bring (Mercedes, BMW, Porsche, Jaguar, etc.).

Don't get me wrong, to me the Vette is the End-all-be-all American sports car. That's why I bought one. Unfortunately, though, many folks feel that the fact that it is American puts it on a lower level than the high-end imports.

Therefore, GM needs to make a choice. Either keep it in the "value" range, which would require them to quell the recent price hikes, or try to go after the imports. To me, they're choosing the latter, and now the sky is the limit as far as price for these machines.

I haven't decided if I think that's the right thing to do or not.

My 2001 listed for 49K just about my limit. My income is not rising at the rate GM is jacking up there prices. I really dont think I am going to be able to afford a new C6 pushing 60K. I think im going to fall in that "priced out" group after 15 years of new Corvette ownership. The ZR1 was a special limited edition model this is why GM could get away with silly pricing on it, and then it didn't last long.

Maybe they'll try again. Try to get the best of both worlds.

jimxo, try the larger book stores like Boarders or Barnes and Noble.

Thing is about price. We the buyer have control over it if we all COLLECTIVELY want. If no one buys one then they will have to lower the price of the car, or stop building it (scary). It seems to me that they can not build the car fast enough, even in todays times. If that were the case for me and I was selling something and I could not produce it fast enough. If I could raise the price to make more money meanwhile the need for my product not slow down, I would do the same thing. Up the price and make more money. You bet ya!!!! Plus, GM probably wants the sales to drop off a little to ease the model change, and slow down Corvette sales to help make room for the XLR in the same plant on the same assembly line. I have not heard production numbers, but I don't think that they can build 30,000 vettes and 10,000 XLR's in a year. Something will have to give some where. At least that is how I am thinking about the whole thing. Just my opinion.

I know that I will never be able to afford a 60k car. Heck I can not even afford a used Corvette right now. At that rate I might get a used C6 by 2010.

Those were the two I called but they do not carry it?

No they have cammo but are bigger and more clear IMO. You can see a lot more detail. Go online and see if you can buy one and have them ship it or ask who sells it in our area. You really should just get it delivered its the only car mag you really need its a must if you are into cars!
