What is the procedure for checking and replacing mc solenoid? I got the ecm working and got code 23 and 54 both mc solenoid codes.

I'm not looking at the book, but just a quick response for now: Let the engine warm up and then listen to the carb. A mechanic's stethescope that can be purchased cheap at any auto parts store will make this easy. The carb should be ticking. If it is not, check and clean the MC solenoid connector (on top of the carb toward the passenger side). I always recommend cleaning all connectors (at computer, carb, distributor, etc.) on these old CCC systems with Caig Labs Deoxit (do a search on ebay). Disconnect the battery for at least 30 seconds (or while you clean the connections) and that will reset the computer. See if this fixes it. God bless, Sensei

Equine,

Read this thread http://www.corvetteactioncenter.com/forums/showthread.php?t=98279 on the carb issues. It is not a write-up (step-by-step), but it definitely supplements what the tools looks like and the carb as well.

Having said that, it could be an adjustment issue whatever is triggering the codes, so read-up some more about it before you go and start tearing-down your L81 carb.

Great info guys. I really gotta say a big thanks for the help. I have found that my mc selonoid plug tab is broken and there is another plug floating around that would fit. So my next question is, what color are the wires for the mc selonoid and how should they go left to right? If its not a quick fix. I am really thinking of sending the carb to Lars. The car runs pretty rough at idle but runs well past that and no real bogging issues.

I have not looked under the hood, but I recall that the connector was lime green. There is another one that looks very close to it, but that one goes to the Air Switching valve and it is gray in color.

Orange and green, green goes toward the front of the vehicle. Lars will not touch an E4ME. God bless, Sensei

So if Lars won't touch it,who will? My carb seems to work fine but his mc solenoid makes no noise and I can't get any dwell reading from my otc monitor. Is it that hard to replace? I have the Doug Roe book coming, any other suggestions would be great.

You need the right tools/gauges to set these solenoids when replaced.

My concern is the lack of dwell reading. The solenoid just reacts to this signal, the ECM supplies it.
