Hi all. Took possession of my 1971 LT-1 last month and need to get it certified. Can someone recommend a good mechanic in the Toronto area, specifically Brampton/Mississauga to bring it to? I've tried the local Corvette clubs, they they're pushing the shops that sponsor their club. I'm looking for an unbiased suggestion.

Thanks in advance

Rob

it would stand to reason that the club would direct you to a person who they know, wether or not he sponsors them is not important.he probably is their sponsor because they know and trust him?
or have i been away from the city too long??mike

Oh, Canadian Tire are Corvette experts, that would explain way they screw up every other type of car. BTW, Vettehead Mikey, is Dingy's corvette still around in Montreal? By brother used to know the owners and I still have a couple of vintage Dingy's T-shirts. Also to MIke Weyman, I think in any society, money talks. Doesn't it?

Geeze, Dingy's. Haven't heard that name is ? years. Long gone as far as I know. Zeke's is still going strong though.

Ok There is a very good mechanic in the Mississauga area.

The name is Brian. He runs Stingray Auto Tech.

Heres the website http://www.stingrayauto.com/

Tell him Eric Sent you.

Good Luck

yes knish, money talks, but if you lost money to a bad mechanic, you wouldn't recomend him even if you get sponsorship from them .would you??i'd take the sponsorship money, but would privately give the "no-no".
maybe that's just me mike

Thanks Eric, I've already spoken to someone there and will go on a shop tour soon. I'll be sure to tell him you sent me. I hope that's a good thing? :>)

No problem.

I have not seen Brian for several years since is too far for me now. He did a lot of work on my 80.

Hey there,

http://www.grandsportmotors.com/

These guys were very good and honest, shop looks a little dingy but they are very honest, I thought I had a rear mian seal leak, they automatically picked up on a n intake leak.

Quick to get parts as well.

i have heard that GS Motors is a good place..you could not pay me to go to Stingray....

i have a guy i trust completely with my Vette...guy is amazing ...in a nutshell he knows plenty...he doesnt specialize in Vettes and i would not go to a place like that as they are usually way over priced...

if you are interested let me know...he is the Dundas and Royal York area...

Thanks all. I took a shop tour today at Stingray. The shop seems quite clean and Brian quite knowledgable. I can't be sure about their prices as I haven't gotten any work done there as yet. They had a couple of ground up resto's and it looked there work was pretty good. I'm going to check out a place in Brampton called Winner's Circle Motorsports before I decide. IBAD69, thanks for the recomendation, but I need someone a little closer. I have to count on my wife to follow me in the daily driver, and she (to put it nicely) doesn't drive too well. I'd like the trip to be a short as possible, but I'll surely keep it in mind. Thanks.

Knish , How did you make out on this??? Curious!

Enigma,

I've checked a couple of places out, but haven't made my mind up as yet. I've taken my car out many times this spring and think the car is in great shape. The only problem is with a vibration between 2800 and 3300 rpm. I had a set of Goodyear polyglas tires on the car that were badly flat spotted, so I put on a set of B.F. Goodrich T/A's and what a difference, but that vibration is still there. I know that Stingray Auto may be more expensive, but I think I'm gonna give them a try as they are sort of close and I've checked the shop out and it's pretty nice. The owner Brian seems to be a good guy, so I guess I'm gonna give them a try. I'll let you know afterwards how my experience was.
