Moving the battery to a storage bin?

If you starter with 50/50 weight distribution, you would end up with about 49/51, about a 1% shift.

You mean to tell me that the battery weighs enough to change the weight dist to 49/51? Must be a heavy battery.

Okay, WHY would you want the battery in the rear?

For drag racing, moving the weight toward the rear of the car can significantly improve a car's traction by improving weight transfer. The battery is an ideal candidate for relocation to the rear, as it is heavy and simple to move. The farther back the weight is moved, the more effect it will have.

An added benefit is that you free up some room in the engine compartment. ;)

I guessed at 40 lb for the battery weight and a move of 66 inches to the rear. I think I guessd light on the battery weight. A group 24 battery runs 50 pounds or more.

i doubt it will make my car any quicker...just looking for something to do but I do like the idea of mounting the battery in the rear for security reasons.

True, too. One way to defeat the alarm system is to punch a hole in the battery, through the gill. After the acid drains, no power feeds the alarm system. Some use blocker sheets; others move the battery.

No change is free, however. I am still tracing my hard-start-when-hot issue, and am not sure if this (2nd) Optima is also bad, or if I am not getting a proper charge, despite the heavy cables, to the battery. My DVOM shows almost 1 vdc drop from battery to alternator, which is high, if true. The charging voltage at the battery reads +1vdc relative to the dash.

I do not want to open a can of worms by moving the battery to the rear. Anyone have charging issues with the battery in the rear? Im going to poke around the C3 forum and see what guage they use and if there are any charging issues over there.

DVOM= Digital Volt Ohm Meter
1 vdc= one volt, direct current, in this case measured acros the cable ends
+1 vdc= see above, but my handheld meter shows a volt more at the battery than the dash; probaby measured in a different place.
