History ...
When we bought our house, it came equipped with an OLD garage that I suspect might have been built in the 1920's or earlier. Anyway, it was in very poor condition, such that we had to tear it down in 2001 ...
There was a big empty spot where the garage used to be, and all I did was mow the weeds that grew there.
Of course, things happen, and in February 2006, we added the '95 to our lives ...
Winter wasn't over yet, so the poor thing had to withstand some abuse from Mother Nature ...
My most excellent wife (and best friend), kept asking me what my plans were for the upcoming winter of 06/07 - and I had to admit that I didn't really have one. Getting the Corvette was such a major accomplishment, and we had a few other things going on, so winter storage wasn't big on my list of things to worry about. So, being the loving woman that she is, she told me that we had a perfectly good starting point right in our own back yard. She pointed out that a 20' by 22' foot Corvette Cave would be perfect for the car. So, heeding this wise counsel, I embarked on a project - the CORVETTE CAVE project.
Here is the story (in both words and pictures) of my quest to build a Corvette Cave ...
It all starts with a good foundation!
My son has been following the developments all the way through ...
And finally, a nice smooth concrete foundation
In October 2006, the structure begins to come together ...
Starting to look like a proper Cave ...
Now lets get that roof done ...
Almost ready for shingling ...
Shingling underway - early October 2006
Shingles installed, and getting ready for siding ...
Now I'm really getting excited about all this!
