My Corvette won't squeel tires on take off !!!

Hey Tepot, did you ever put that 268 extreme energy cam in your vette? If so I've been wondering how you like it? That cam doesn't come on til 1600 rpm I believe. I was concerned about your 308 when you mentioned that cam. I think you will be lucky to spin the tires just by jumpin on it even with 373s, especially if you have any kind of tires at all. But it is the right way to go and should make it easier to light them by popping the clutch. If you happen to have a close ratio 4 spd. that will make it even harder to spin them because of the high ratio in low gear. I had a brand new 69 427 390 HP with 370 gears and a close ratio 4 spd. and it would not light the stock tires just by jumpin on the accel. FYI top speed in that 69 was 130mph at 6000rpm. I'm not really sure if the engine would have gone any faster. Good luck

Mike

Yes Magoo, I did install the Comp Cam Extreme Energy 268. And yes, I really like the cam. It sounds awesome. It's like I own a different car. I just love to stop at a red light and hear it on Idle. I don't even put music in the car anymore. I just want to listen to that nice Idling sound. I've also notice an improvement on response. The car really accelerates fast.

Since I've installed the Cam. I've also changed the timing chain and gears. also installed the Edelbrock Performer EPS Intake and Edelbrock performer 600 CFM carburator. I've aslo Swaped points system to electronic system. I'm pretty sure the Engine needs a good tunning now to make sure I'm getting all my HORSES !!!.

I'm currently waiting for a 2.5" chambered Exaust to replace my 2" exaust system. Right after that. It's DYNO time !!! There's a Corvette specialist around here that can tune up my car on the dyno and will make sure it performs the best before i get it out of his shop.

Just the other day. He tunned a 1970 Corvette. The corvette got 263 HP at rear wheels on the first pass. Then when he got out he had 304 HP. WOW !!!

I'm definitively gonna go see that guy, And of course I'll let you know the Results before and after. Can't wait !!!

70mph @ 3363 RPM??? OUCHIE!!! :eek

OUCH !!! in deed. I went for a drive yesterday and the car is kind of hard on gas. Either it needs a good tune up or else it's normal. Not really sure yet until I get it on the Dyno.

I go on highway every now and then. Go to some trips with the Corvette Club.. I know it will be more expensive on gas with 3.70's but hey what the heck. I wanna have fun with my car and fun for me is acceleration and not speed. So if it will cost me more gas for long runs. Well so be it. I didn't buy this car for good gas economy. If I wan't good milleage I have a Chevy Cavalier 4 cylinder here for that. ahah

"... around 3100 or so @ 60 mph... at 70 mph, it's more like 3300..."

With a 3.70:

70 = 3363
80 = 3844
90 = 4325
100 = 4805
:beer

Yep, that's the same as me... Again, I am pleased with this gear ratio, and so glad I did not go with the 4.11:1.
