'65 Convertable
I finally got my new to me '65 roadster home! Drove 'er accross the country! Ran great, almost no problems. Had to replace a rear wheel bearing in a small town in northern Ont. Met a nice young couple with a nice repair shop they had just taken over. They were already servicing the local police cars so they were doing somthing right. The young owner had not had anything to do with Corvette rear wheel bearings but I've done them before so he tossed me some coveralls and said to pull her into that bay and go for it. Was outa' there by 6:30. BELAND'S AUTO REPAIR in Wawa Ont. The rest of the trip was perfect.
My question for today is does anyone have any advise of any products to keep a white soft top nice and white? They discolour quite easily. Maybe 3m or someone makes some kind of protectant?

So what did I miss give us the details of the car,Congradulations on your purchase,And its funney but it seems every one has a good story on there car purchase.Just remember the journey has just begone

Just on a guess, I'd say your young mechanic will talk about the day the 65 roadster pulled into his shop for years.

Frank,

Congratulations on your new '65!!! I'm sure you'll be very happy with that beauty.

Regarding keeping a white vinyl top clean and white...try Soft Scrub with Bleach. Yes, the household product! I use it on both of our Corvettes white vinyl tops...in fact, I just finished doing mine 5 minutes ago for the first time this year. What a difference it makes! Brightens the white right up with little work. Just wet the top first, pour some Soft Scrub onto the top and work it in with a small brush. Rinse it well (and make sure you rinse the car well, too), wipe it, and you're all set.

Good luck!

Elaine

Thanks everyone. Yes Mac, actually the whole town was aware of our presence. It's a real pretty car. The paint and new white top really make it shine. It was a great trip and I going to do it again sometime. Of course the car needs other stuff tho. I'd post some pics but I've already started taking it apart. Got lots of film pics but didn't think of taking some digitals before I took the hood off and sent it off to the Cloverdale B.C. swap meet. Got a flat hood that I'm blocking out for now. So now my new to me sharp lookin' blue car is sitting there with no hood and a red hard top that I bought. Thats very temporary tho. The daughter thinks I'm nuts but the wife's used to that stuff. I was going to get all busy and Big Block and side pipe the car right away, but I'm havin' too much fun. The car zaps around like crazy even with the very mild small block and the 3.08's don't p1$$ me off the way I though they were gonna.

I went to the swap meet but I didn't see your hood. I did, however, find the main piece of ignition shielding and a luggage rack that wasn't in too bad shape and the price was reasonable!

Convertible Top Treatment

I've been told to use 303 Aerospace protectant. Sounds like a great trip. Any pictures?

That may be good news if you didn't see my hood [it's sold?]. Glad you found parts you needed Mac.
6T7, I took lots of 3 rolls of film on the way but no digitals. Will try post some pics when I get a hood back on it. Removed the L88 style that was on it. It DIDN'T kinda grow on me as we thought it might. I'm looking for a source for a bolt on scoop in the'67 bb style.

Sounds a lot like an experience I had. I drove my '65 convertible from Boston to Minneapolis (via Bowling Green, of course) and blew an exhaust donut somewhere in rural West Virginia. Found a little exhaust shop off the freeway with incredibly friendly people who really knew their stuff. They made me feel like a celebrity for the 20 minutes it took to fix the car and charged me all of $8. :-)

Sorry for taking so long to get some pics up folk, it's our busy season. Have a look.

The hood came back from the swap meet and I haven't painted up the other one yet, Whats the rush? The weathers great and I'm lovin' it [found a 454 too].
