I originally had one fob (fob ID #2) when I purchased the car, so I received a new fob (fob ID #1) and programmed the new fob to the vehicle according to the owners manual. Programming the new fob was straight forward and it works fine to unlock & lock the doors, and start the engine.

A few days later I want to program the fob #1 so that the doors unlock as I approach and lock as I walk away - like fob #1 which I received with the car.
When I press the Options button the dic indicates "Options Unavailable". I retrieved the original fob and left the new fob out of range. Pressed the Options button and was able to scroll through he options.

The system doesn’t like the new fob I received, other than the basic unlock / lock / start the engine .

Any thoughts?
Thanks

Key fob

My 99 has an active/passive switch which must be turned on to have the car lock when you walk away from it. I assume yours is the same.

The fob was redesigned. There are no switches to turn the proximity off on the fob.

I read the manual again. There is a statement that this message is generated because the fob is not either one of the fobs that are programmed for the vehicle. Well, that is true if I didn’t get a new fob from the dealer and program it to match the vehicle. I'll place a call into the dealer.
