Hello all! I'm glad that I found this forum. I just bought my second 'Vette....a '95 LT-1 coupe with an automatic transmission and 68,000 miles. It's been pampered and looks like it just came from the showroom. I hate to say it, but the last time that I had one, Pong was the state of the art video game. That ought to give you some point of reference.

I have two questions. Maybe some of you could help with with one or both.

First of all, the car is sagging on the driver's side. Measuring from the floor to the high point of the wheel well, it's 1/4" low in front and 3/4" to 1" low in back. I don't know whether this would solely be due to tired springs or are the body mounts usually a culprit in these cases?

Secondly, and more important, I'm having a cold driving problem. It starts fine, but the "Service ASR", "ASR Off", and "Service Engine Soon" lights come on and stay on. Coupled with this, when I drive it at that point, it stays in first gear and the transmission slips horribly. No matter how much I rev it, it will not go over 18 MPH. Then, if I turn it off and let it sit for a few moments and then restart it, the lights don't come on again and it drives fine. I'm baffled.

I bought the car from a local Chevy dealer and sank the big bucks into the Millenium Gold extended warranty just for this kind of situation. Anyone have any thoughts? Now I found out that that warranty package covers struts (except the cartridges), but not springs.

Thanks in advance and I'm looking forward to lots of conversations with the group.

I agree, get some codes off of that thing and see whats up. 18 mph top speed for a 'Vette? Yikes!

BTW Welcome to CAC!

Thank you for the warm welcome!

How does one go about getting the codes? Don't I need some sort of diagnostic meter?

Rod

Naw, not at all.... that is unless you concider a paper clip a computational marvel.;LOL

There should be a small diagnostic block somwhere under the dashboard either on pass or drivers side (Drivers side on my 84).

In your Chilton or Haynes manual, It will tell you what two connection pins to bridge with the paper clip. Turn the key to the "on" position and count the flashes.

The manual will tell you all about it but it is a cheap and easy way to diagnose the electronic problems 'Vettes spit at you every now and then. The manual will also have a code listing so you can relate the flashes to actual sources.

Good luck!

I do recomend purchasing both the Haynes and Chilton manuals. They both have different but valuable insights to common problems.

Great! Thanks. I haven't had a chance to pick up the manuals yet, but they were on my "to do" list. Now I've got a REAL reason to go find them.

Welcome Rod!
