Finally bit the bullet and ordered new tires for the GS today. Michelin Pilot Super Sports from the Tirerack for me!! Being delivered to my favorite installer on Monday, having it re-aligned to the Pfadt performance street specs for longer tread life. My trip to NJ last August on the PA Turnpike in the rain scared the S**t out of me with the Goodyear run craps. Hydroplaned like a M*****F****R!! I'm never driving the GS at 150mph+, the GS is our cruiser, our Z06 is our bruiser!

I'm sure they will be a huge improvement. The GS OEM Goodyears are the worst tire I have experienced on REALY wet roads. They were terrible on my 07Z, and they are just as bad on the 12GS. I'll probably go with Bridgestone run-flats when I replace the OEMs, unless something better shows up. They worked well on the Z.

Remember the good old days when you could drive to South Bend, and Tire Rack would install your tires and wheels? I'm sure those days are over.

Actually, I could have them installed in South Bend! They still do a fantastic job! I'm getting an alignment at the same time so I'm having the tires shipped to Mike Anderson Chevrolet in Merrillville, Indiana. The Corvette Technician there, Lee Stahr is a World Class Tech. No one other than him or I touch my Vettes with a wrench!!

Damn, do I hate reading threads like this. You pay this kind of money for a performance car and you have to worry about hydroplanning if you get caught in the rain.

I'm still waiting for things to warm up a bit before taking mine out of storage due to another thread I read about a guy being scared to death when he drove his car in the Thanksgiving timeframe last fall. Apparently the stock tires suck in rain and cool weather.

Congrats on the new tires by the way, and please keep us posted about their performance after you drive it for a while.

My new wish list (and I haven't even driven the car yet) is a new set of tires and ceramic brake pads.

I got a set of the Bridgestone Potenzas Pole Position RFT's ordered at my local tire store downtown. My best deal on the Internet was from Discount tire at $1570 I think for the set. I went down and beat them up a bit and we settled on 1650 installed and balanced. I will also have my alignment checked and a little less camber put in......I love my Invo's but we are going to do some out west touring this summer and I want a run flat to work with. I hope I don't hate them......I'm a cruiser not an abuser......

I'll have a first report at the Bash... 360 miles should be enough to know how the new highway manners are. As an added benefit, maybe I'll be able to hear the radio!! Those GYs are LOUD too!!

I think you will like the Potenzas. They are a nice compromise between ride, performance, all-weather traction, longevity and price.

Tire Update

Ok, after the trip down to the museum on the new Michelin Pilot Super Sports, I can report the the tires are everything they're advertized to be... and MORE!!! Totally transformed the personality of our 2010 GS Vert!! Better ride, MUCH quieter, dead straight tracking, and absolutely no vibration!! Mike Anderson Chevrolet in Merrilleville Indian did my insatll and alignment. I had the camber taken down to -.25 degrees, caster increased just a schosh... take my hands off of the whell at 80MPH... dead straight, no more crack tracking!!
I would recommend these tires to any GS owner who is tired of their Runcraps!! TireRack was a good deal, my local Chevy store did the rest!!
