How does the oil change monitor work? Does it measure mileage or something in the oil? The FSM doesn't say how it works, and searching the forums here I found several different answers.

The Monitor uses Oil Temperature and Engine Revolutions to decide when the oil is nearly worn out!! This can be anywhere between 3,000 and 7,500 miles depending on severity of driving!!:upthumbs

Junk, does it also factor in time? Seems like when I change the oil in the fall and then drive in the spring the change oil light comes on at quite low mileage. ;shrug

I just bought my C4 last week. It is just too much fun! Anyway, I have reset the oil change light and it keeps coming back on! The guy I bought it from said he changed the oil about 1200 miles ago. He seemed like an honest guy and when I checked the oil, it was clear. I bought it about 300 miles away and drove it home. Is there some kind of sensor that is dirty?
