Hello everyone. I am a new member of the action center community. I have been reading many posts in the C4 forums for a few weeks now with much enjoyment and finally registered to join in on the fun.
I am an owner of a 1992 dark red metallic vette. I purchased it a month ago from an older lady who was selling the car because her husband had died and the car was his. The car has 90000 miles on it but looks new inside and out. I was told the car was garaged kept, never smoked in and never driven in the rain. I really love the car and hope to keep it for many years. I have a question for you guys. As I stated earlier the car has 90000 miles on her now and I want to change the oil and filter. I will use Mobil 1 oil and filter but do I need to use 5W30 oil or maybe 10w30 0R 40 since it has extended mileage?

Welcome To The Corvette Action Center Ballast!

Glad to have you with us. :upthumbs

The 10W/30 oil should be good enough for your engine. If it was maintained as well as it was kept and stored, the engine should be as clean as the car. ;)

Was it the LT1's that started with synthetic oil? You'd better check on that to make sure that if it is synthetic, to stick with synthetic. If not, I would change over to synthetic oil.

I see that you are from Alabama - Mobil 1 10w30 will do just fine.
My 92 has over 100K on it now and I've used 10w30 in it since it was new. I also use the standard AC filter (PF-52 if memory serves).
BTW, 92 was the first year for the LT1 and the first year for synthetic oil from the factory. Keep using synthetic in it as the 92 does not have an additional oil cooler and tends to run hotter than the L98 and all previous Chevy small blocks (reverse flow coolant system).
Another thing to note - don't wash the motor with a hose. Getting the OptiSpark wet is a sure way of walking home and calling the mechanic.

Later,

Mobil 1 10w30

I bought my '86 with 92,000 on it. I have no idea what was used in it, but I immediately changed the oil to 10w30 Mobil 1 and used a Wix filter. So far, not troubles, no leaking and no oil usage
