Well its been a while since I've posted.Been waiting for some parts and also descent weather to try them out.
After installing new pertronics ignition wires, fresh plugs, dist.cap, rotor, and set timing to specs, took the car out for a test drive and really thought I had everything running great.
The car was running very well, the car really took off when the secondaries kicked in.
Now my question..After driving it approx. 30 min. it gradually started running like crap again.Sitting at a red light you could listen to the side exhausts and tell it was not firing correctly. At acceleration I had decreasing power, even at gradual acceleration.
Thought I'd check the plugs once it cooled off,see if any looked fouled.I dont know, this problem sounds or seems so easy but I just cant seem to get it worked out.
A little history"Carbs have been totally rebuilt this winter.Pertronics pointless ignition installed"Car has never run very well past 4500 rpm..
Is it running rich? Lean ? Thanks again all, Jim

AC R45

BUT !!! a rescent discovery,I should have checked my plugs before I posted. The right side plugs were prestine, moved to the drivers side and noticed a plug wire just floppin in the breeze.
Its amazing how much better it runs on all 8 cylinders.

It still breaks up a little at 4500rpm but its much, much better..
Sorry, and no more tripower questions.. Jim

Ken,
the manual shows an AC43xls, what will a 46n or46xl do for me. Thanks Jim

the numbers are the heat range 43 is a "Colder" plug and for your type of driving will foul much easier then a 45 or 46. The XL I am not sure but I think it is It is the legnth of the threads and "S" is extended tip either way if you are not using the "XLS" your tip won't be where it should be. Hence the poor running and fouling plugs.
Spark plugs are relativly cheap. For city driving you may well want to go to 46 but if it were me I would start at a 45XLS and go from there.
Good Luck

;LOL even I haven't done that one before............. ;LOL

you know mine is breaking up at anything over 5000rpm.
I need to find time to figure out if it's a bad performance points, rotor and/or cap, or the float levels in my carb.

It wasn't doing it previously and the points are the same so I don't think it's the point. it may be the rotor and/or cap I put in, I heard that the white rotors are cheap crap and that's what's on there ( i got the rotor and cap from Paragon). It may also be the adjustment of the float levels of the carb being a little low.

The manual shows a plug for continious hi speed & no one ever used one. AC's are marginal, at best, so a hotter plug that is the CORRECT length will do wonders for a street 427

Barry,
No more carb talk for me,its a sensitive subject. If I had just changed my old SS braided wires I'd probobly be alot happier. My problem is that I suck at diognosing problems.
So w/ that said I'm going w/ the 46xls plugs and closing the book for this season !!! I THINK
Sounds like your plate is quite full, really enjoying your progress on the C3 forum.Take care AND THINK SAFE(I liked your thread on safety) Jim

Thanks Ken, I'm going to look for some 46 xls,my Auto Zone here in Perrysburg does'nt carry them so I'll find them somewhere.I'll let you know how they perform..Jim
