Hey Kingman,
The Passive Keyless Entry (PKE) can be disabled. It involves minor “reprogramming” of your fob.
You can set your fob to open the driver door only, or to open both driver and passenger doors upon approaching your car. You’ll have to see your owners manual (section pages 2-4 to 2-9) as I don’t know the steps by heart.
To deactivate the PKE auto unlock only:
Stand close to your car, (within range of the PKE to unlock the doors) hold down the grey “door” icon on your fob till your hear the locks do a lock and unlock cycle. This disables the PKE.
To reactivate the auto open mode, repeat the same procedure of holding down the grey door button till you hear the locks cycle again. Nice feature if you are working near your Corvette and you happen to need the keys and don’t want the locks to lock and unlock constantly.
To test if you have disarmed the PKE, walk away a few feet, wait, then return, if the system has successfully been disarmed, your Corvettes’ locks will not cycle open or closed .
For detailed information see, the ’96 owners manual, section pages 2-4 to 2-9.

P.S. No worries about the window up mistake, we all learn hear on the CAC, it’s the best Corvette classroom I’ve encountered.
