I just found out that the 96 is the only C4 that the drivers windows goes up when touched automaticly!

All of my cars have that option and took it for granted that every car has that cheap feature.

Let me tell you that the 96 was really an odd year!

Alan

not sure I understand what you mean . push the switch and it goes all the way by itself ?

He's probably talking about "express down". They would never put in "express up" for safety reasons.

Sure they would. Most luxo cars have "express up" and have for years. My '89 Subaru even had it... though my 96 and 97 do not. I can tell you for certain that all Lexuses (Lexi?) have it, as do at least the last couple years' worth of Mercedes, and BMW was using it in 93 if not earlier.

????????????

You would think that all cars would have express up on the driver's side.

The things we take for granted!

"So what" to this thread... So useless discussion occupying time and space at CAC guys & girls...

I honestly never knew that cars would have express up because I safety reasons.

Um, allow me to be the first to point out that if you don't care for a topic under discussion, then ignore it... no need to dis anyone.

My CTS's windows are 4x2 - 4 express down and 2 express up!

I can't remember my 96 CE as ever having express up - then the memory is the first thing to go.

We must live and forgive!!!

SSTibet's comments do not bother me and he has a right to complain and we all should try to be more understanding for he has been living in a different country which isn't the garden spot of this planet.

Alan

I don't think it has express up but it does have express down. We are here to discuss and BS about our cars no one has to participate if they don't want to. JMHO. Guy

No mention of it in either the service manual or the owner's manual.

Reverse!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry

The drivers window goes down with one touch and not up. The biggest pain is the auto locking feature tied into the key fob. Can this be disabled?

Alan

Yes, the auto locking system is a pain in the :booty , if you read the owner's manual, it will tell you how to disable it.

The 96 was a unique C4 animal. The coil is different, exhaust and few other things. That is good and bad, auto parts may sell you the wrong parts.

My wife's RAV4 has express/auto up

Hey my 92 had none of the above;shrug

The 95 may be a safer bet!!!!!!

Your 100% correct and l find that there are many parts that lend themselves to the 96 only.

Did you know that the reason that the 96 has fewer noises and that seems tighter is because some of the panels are glued together or something like that.

I have looked but cann't seem to find which ones are glued.

Hey Kingman,

The Passive Keyless Entry (PKE) can be disabled. It involves minor “reprogramming” of your fob.

You can set your fob to open the driver door only, or to open both driver and passenger doors upon approaching your car. You’ll have to see your owners manual (section pages 2-4 to 2-9) as I don’t know the steps by heart.

To deactivate the PKE auto unlock only:
Stand close to your car, (within range of the PKE to unlock the doors) hold down the grey “door” icon on your fob till your hear the locks do a lock and unlock cycle. This disables the PKE.

To reactivate the auto open mode, repeat the same procedure of holding down the grey door button till you hear the locks cycle again. Nice feature if you are working near your Corvette and you happen to need the keys and don’t want the locks to lock and unlock constantly.

To test if you have disarmed the PKE, walk away a few feet, wait, then return, if the system has successfully been disarmed, your Corvettes’ locks will not cycle open or closed .

For detailed information see, the ’96 owners manual, section pages 2-4 to 2-9.

P.S. No worries about the window up mistake, we all learn hear on the CAC, it’s the best Corvette classroom I’ve encountered.

I wonder why it was first installed on the 96 Corvette. My moms Park Avenue Ultra had it, and that was a 93.

Same steps as disabling PKE but with the key in the ignition and ignition off.

In addition, the PKE lamp in the DIC will not come on during the "ignition on" bulb test.
