Hi,

I have a '77 Corvette that is completely original with the exception of the tires, battery and heater hoses. I dropped the spare tire tub over the weekend and to my surprise, discovered an original 68 Redline spare with a correct 68 AG coded wheel. Is there any way possible that this wheel was placed there at the factory? I doubt it personally but the rest of the car is untouched and the 2 previous owners had the car professionally maintained and never touched anything. Any thoughts or opinions would be great. Thanks!

Someone took the correct spare out of your Corvette. No way a bias belted tire was put in at St Louis 5 years after those belted tires were available. Last Corvettes with bias belted tires (red lines were not even an option anymore) was in 1972. Radial tires became standard in 1973 on all Corvettes. All 1968 Corvettes had a 7 X 15 inch rim. 1969 -1982 Corvettes the rim size was 8X15. So your rim should be if it's a 1968, 7 inch with a F70-15 tire. The correct rim would be a 8 inch with a GR70x15 Goodyear Steel Guard or a Firestone 500 GR70-15 black wall, white stripe or white letter.
