Hello All, I have a 1996 Lt1 and the car is curently in the shop. The car keeps overheating.. The machanic said the radiator is fine and the cap so he changed the thermostat and still having the same problem. Can anybody help with the problem??
Well I had the same problem last fall. I put on a new thermostat, and checked the radiator. All was good, but it still overheated. My problem wound up being the water pump. Are you losing any water? Sometimes you'll lose water but not be able to find a leak. If the water pump goes bad, it will leak from the little hole on the bottom side of the pump, almost imposible to see the leak. You can use a mirror to check under the pump for that.
Well, another thing that people dont' think to looks is plastic bags. They get wedged up in there between the A/C condensor and the radiator. Or, even other type of debris.... No air.... no coolie.... overheatie....
What are your temps?? Are you actually overheating, or just runninig real hot??
I had alot of gunk up in between my radiator, like chevy addict described, makes a diff. heres my thread, read thru it, alot of it may apply to your problem also.
Thanks guys problem solved. I had about 3 pounds of junk between the radiator. I'll be picking the car up today.. I wounder what the bill will be>> I will post to let you all know what 3 pounds of junk cost these days. later

Mid America sells a screen sheild for this very problem, I was going to build my own, but the one they sell looks like a nice product, I will be getting one after pulling out and cleaning out all the crapola I found in there, part # 618-145, sells for $60.
