1984 Z51 4+3 Bright Red Coupe
The 84 that I just bought is red, but I can tell that it was repainted and I don't think that it was red originally. The RPO listed here indicates that red is WA8552 and my car indicates that the paint # is WA-8551 clearcoat/ basecoat -what is this color? There is also a 33L and 33U. Lastly 741 & 742 -interior color numbers??
Thanks, Glen :confused

Welcome to the CAC. The info on you 84 is in the Model Center on the home page for this site. 33 is bright red

Thanks, but is that for sure, because the WA for Bright red is WA8552 and mine indicates WA 8551 or dosn't this have anything to do with the color? Maybe there was a number change because mine is a 1/84 build and says that it has base coat/ clearcoat?

33U and 33L indicate upper and lower portions of the body, above belt line, below belt line. These are the RPO codes. Basically it's telling you the entire car is red. The 8552 8551 is the factory paint code, by that I mean it is what the actual color code is for the paint. If you were involved in a fender bender so to speak this is the paint code for the shop to order the correct color. WA is the code for waterborn paint application.

All Corvettes from 1981 starting with Bowling Green production are base coat clear coat.

if you are looking for paint, the WA number is what you will need to take to the paint store.

It will cross over to any Base /Clearcoat system. Watch out for the variants, especially red. Also it's the most expensive color.

Waterborne paint is not required in all states yet, and is not even available here yet.

I have used the WB primer, but I still use standard stuff when it comes to B/C.
