I have the steering column out of my '66 as part of my instrument cluster rehab. I'd like to paint it. Having no spray equipment leaves me with spray cans as my option unless I send it out somewhere. I don't see a problem other than finding a nice match of the original satin black finish. Where can I buy it?
Also, I'd like to paint some miscellaneous pieces under the hood, like the bracket that holds the steering column jacket. Various black and grey pieces need to be spruced up. Who sells a good match? :confused

I am not sure if its factory correct but I have been using rustoleum satin black with excellent results,

Clean you parts good as it seems anything in the interiour has been covered with armorall and it must be removed or you get fish eyes in the paint.

You might want to try calling Eline Automotive in Kennet Square.
they are a PPG paint supplier and probably have in their books the proper color mix and finish for the various things you want to repaint on the interior such as the dash and column.
I believe they can also put the paint into spray cans for your use also.
Their number is 610-444-9667 or 1-866-PPG-ELINE.

of course, if Larry or Bob are correct than readily and easily available spraypaint that you can pick up anywhere is a much easier way to go........
LOL

I would imagine that they are correct so..........forget my previous post!

I spruced-up the steering column, bowl, escutcheon, and steering wheel hub on my '67 last year, and used SEM Trim Black #39143; perfect match for the original semi-gloss finish. No deductions when the car was judged. I do my underhood parts with Krylon #1613 Semi-Flat black.

John,

I've never heard of SEM paint. Is that a brand name? Where is it available?

You can find SEM trim black at any body shop supply store. I also use trim black for my int. parts.

SEM Trim Black #39143 is the correct paint used for the trim. You might also want to prime the column and SEM sells a GREAT primer too. Look it up on the net you will find several places that sell it, including Eastwood. The paint goes on smooth and leaves a factory finish. When I used it. I will two two coats (30 Mins apart) let it sit for 24-36 hours, then using 0000 steel wool, scub down, then add two more coats and let sit for 24-36 hours. Professional results everytime...very impressive paint.
