Welcome to the Corvette Forums at the Corvette Action Center!

permalink thread ?

Isn't that when a thread has been moved from one forum to another and a link is left in the forum where it started?

-Mac

A permalink is so called because if you link to this post/thread from another site or thread, the link will never break so long as you use the permalink URL, not the actual URL. Or to describe it in more understandable terms, if this thread is ever archived, the permalink will still take you to the linked post even though it has in fact moved to a different location. If you've linked using the standard link, it could be broken once the thread is archived. Like most forums, the CAC does occasionally archive threads in the technical forums.

Now don't ask me how it works:eyerole. Someone more technically savvy may be able to explain that.

Mac is referring to a permanent redirect, which is the result of a Moderator/Admin moving a thread from one forum to another and allowing the link to the new location to remain in the original location forever. Case in point, I've moved this thread to the "Site Help & Feedback" forum with an expiring redirect instead of a permanent redirect. This means that this thread can still be accessed from the Off Topic forum for one week, then the redirect will disappear. Then the thread will only be accessible from the Site Help forum.
