So here's the deal,

The car is fouling pulgs BIG TIME!

From OIL & to rich

I bought a petronix kit & have an ACCELL good coil.

I still have the points in....( new blue streak dwell set to 30 deg timing@ 6deg BTDC)

Will an HEI distrib ( tach drive ) set up blow the doors off the petronix as far as RAW spark output is concerned.

And thoughts?

Other info

The heads on the car are WRONG!( this engine) I'm running Delco 45 tx's in there
(peanut plugs).. the plugs are gapped for .035 and I get an OK spark,, not GREAT but blue/ white 1/4" arc..

I doubt it - HEI is just an electronic switch (instead of points), still uses a regular coil. The only thing that "juices" the spark between the points setup and the Pertronix (which is also just an electronic switch instead of points) is coil output - either one should work equally as well, using the same coil. I wouldn't bother spending a bunch of money for anything more than you've got (like an MSD setup); unless your engine is highly modified, it's a waste of money. Part of the solution might be something as simple as valve stem seals; if it's rings, then that's another story.

I'd agree with John. Finding the source of your oil is your main problem. Your car is supposed to run on gas, not diesel. :D

In addition, don't rule out a leak between the intake and the heads, allowing the cylinders to suck in oil from this direction. Don't ask how I know this.

There are some good ideas provided already. But just to second them, if your engine has lots of miles, but compression is still good, chances are the valve guides are worn and you are sucking oil by the valve stem. Replacing the valve seals (if you have the bonnet type) is not too hard and will immediately stop the oil consumption. Don't ovelook a plugged PCV system that is not properly venting your crankcase causing it to build up pressure and blow oil. Using the wrong PCV valve in these cars (one that flows the wrong way to the carb) could also cause this. Just for info, I put a Pertronix ignition in my '67 seven years ago and I have loved every day since. It starts immediately without hesitation, idles smoother, and gave a noticeable boost in HP with no other changes. Oh, by the wqay, check the secondaries in your carb to see if they are wet after the engine has been turned off. Leaking secondaries will make for blackened plugs and oil dilution. Good luck!

Well here's the NEW plan

Were staying with the Petronix
We bought a 6A MSD box & the #2 coil

I also bought new valve stem seals ( old studebaker type) these work MIRACLES.

The secondaries were dry.

This weekend will be a DOOZY...

I have all 3 days OFF...

A whole lot o Wrenching will be going on!
