General Motors vice chairman Bob Lutz won’t confirm this car exists, but he is not saying it doesn’t. We first wrote about Chevrolet’s ultra-performance Corvette—dubbed Blue Devil, most likely to catch the attention of GM CEO and Duke Blue Devil grad Rick Wagoner—shortly before the sixth-generation Corvette debuted at the Detroit auto show in January (AW, Dec. 22 and 29, 2004). We asked Lutz about the car during a recent exclusive interview with AutoWeek.

“Let’s just say [Corvette chief engineer] Dave Hill is not a guy who likes playing second fiddle to any high-performance car on the road,” said Lutz. “My guess is we’re going to find a way to do something beyond the Z06, that would be at a much higher price point, and which would compete with some of the leading high-performance cars of the world.”

Lutz said the car may be delayed while the company focuses most of its engineering might on pulling ahead profit-making vehicles like its next-generation large sport/utilities and pickups.

“But there is certainly no lack of desire on anyone’s part to establish the supremacy of the Corvette,” says Lutz.

Spied on the Nurbürgring, Blue Devil appears to be living up to the earlier hype. Eyewitnesses said the car sounds supercharged, confirming reports the engine is likely a blown version of the Z06’s 7.0-liter V8, producing upward of 600 hp. Look for lightweight carbon fiber body parts to reduce weight to about 2900 pounds.

Pricing will likely start somewhere around $100,000 if and when the car makes production in 2006.

I like very much, I hope GM will get ride of the black rims, and add a stinger hood. other then that the thought of 600+ hp makes me. :naughty:

If ya want the car to be pretty , ditch the wheels . But if ya want it to represent the muscle leave em black.:cool

I hope they build it. Not that I would drop 100k for one though. I love to see Corvette on top.

600+ hp seems low for a forced induction 427; there's easily 700+ there, even with a conservative psi and tune.

All I have to say is.....

Praise be to Jesus!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;worship ;worship

Bring it on!!!!! :bu

Here's my opinion:

If in fact, the "Blue Devil" truly does exist and is going to come to market at some point, I think a few things are in order:

  1. Since the name of the car has more or less been dubbed "Blue Devil" - it should come ONLY in the Admiral Blue Metallic color used on the 1994-1996 Corvettes. That color blue looks like the entire car was plugged into an electrical outlet. It's nothing short of brilliant and you can see Admiral Blue Corvettes coming from quite some distance just because of the color.
  2. The wheels should be the same design used on the pre-production Z06s we've been seeing. However, the finish should be the "gunmetal gray" color that was on the 2005 Corvette at Corvettes at Carlisle last year.
  3. While 2900 lbs is a good target weight, I would have liked to have seen that be the weight of the 2006 Z06. I do, however understand that larger brakes, wheels and tires add weight and can't be avoided. Therefore, let's shoot for 2800 lbs. Let's make the entire body carbon fiber and let's explore other options for removing weight...like removing certain options...or equipment.
  4. A more unique interior from the C6s. Ferraris and other high end sportscars have been using very cool looking racing seats with built-in 5-point restraints. These racing seats are also light weight.
That's all for now. I'm sure I'll think of more later. I'm probably totally off my rocker with some of this, but hey, it's fun to dream isn't it? :)

I have to agree , I thought it was quite a bit on the conservative side.

I can see that I'd better start looking for a twin turbo for ol' Heaven. :D
I wouldn't worry about it Bob. As soon as one of these Blue Devil's pulls up along side of you, all you have to do, is just rev the '67 a little bit, and the racket that comes out of that side exhaust will be enough to explode the windows and probably crack the carbon fiber body panels. You'll be long gone while the owner of the Blue Devil is sitting there trying to figure out what the hell just happened. :L :L

Wow, a supercharged 427?:D:D:D

I personally love the black wheels because it just contrasts so much with the different brake caliper colors to show them off.

My belief is that this is likely just a base Z06. The C6 was also run around the "ring" with black rims painted just as these are. While it's fun to dream about what GM may do, I do not feel that this "Blue Devil" is real at all or that we'll see a forced induction 427. The Z06 is already at 3130 lbs. and I find it hard to believe that GM will add a supercharger and somehow get the weight to 2900 lbs. when the Z06 already has a large amount of carbon fiber. Where else would GM pull the weight? This article is not passing the ol' sniff test in my book.

It could be called Stingray. Blue Devil totally sucks and has nothing to do with Corvette's lineage whatsoever. They could even use Grand Sport or ZR-1 or even ZL-1 because of the aluminum 427 but not Blue Devil. I would vote for
ZL-1 because it denotes one of the most limited production and mythical Corvettes of all time. It would be no different than using ZO6. The ZL-1 name with be a perfect fit for this car if it is produced.

I don't think it's real, though if it is thats great. I like the idea about the Legendary ZL-1 name, I would also go with Grand Sport.

Dave Wouldnt Say. I Showed This Story To A Bunch Of The Engineers That Are Here With The Z06's And They All Said Hmmm And Wouldnt Answer

get rid of all the electronic bull**** - definitely save wieght - isn't the BLUE DEVIL or whatever they end up calling it supposed to be a slayer - then all IT NEEDS TO BE IS FAST - doesn't need to be a Beemer or MB, etc. with all the doodads

The thing about all this that makes me :L is that you guys are making it sound like the Z06 is slow!:L:L:L

And your point is? ;)

I dunno, I guess I'm the type of guy who is satisfied with 500 hp.:L

I dont find it hard to believe that this is real. Just think of all the fire breathing monsters they have built that never made it out . The engineers are know for building these and labeling them EXPERIMENTAL to get away with it . all in the name iof a better product. Remember GM's TOY BOX. There was an article on that.
