This is an observation and testamonial to the '96 I've had for 6 months. It seems the 'stock' 300HP doesn't get much attention/respect compared to the red intake version or the power mad ZR-1.

Granted the 6 speed and higher revs is more appropriate to many. But the performance relative to 95% of the vehicles out there is just amazing. This engine is docile and meek until called on to melt rubber (if you remember to push the crazy button.)

Chevy makes the best motors in this respect. The blown Mustang with all the ponies was just a nag. The carbs in the older ones were hard to keep right. This 'regular' 350 and the bullet proof auto is really quite special, and deserves a big thumbs up IMHO.

tlong,

The LT1 is a wonderful motor, hopefully you are not feeling that it is any the less than the other motors (LT4-LT5).

A maintained LT1 will last you a very, very long time. Before I purchased my LT4, I had two LT1’s, a ‘93 and a ‘94 , I loved those cars, they were reliable and had the right amount of grunt that kept a smile on my face.

True, the LT4/5 cars are quicker, but the LT1 is a respectable engine. Keep in mind that it was last produced seven years ago, your LT1 is slowly going to become a classic, just give it the TCL it needs.

Owning a Corvette isn’t always about speed, being a owner and taking care of one of these icons is enough for some.
